define lovey

i asked this in another post but got no response. does lovey mean a stuffed animal or blanket or is it a particular name for something?

    It is basically what ever "thing" your child uses for comfort. It could be a blanket, stuffed animal, burp cloth, etc.

    I've always referred to the things that my son uses for comfort as his loveys. He has a teddy bear and a little dish-towel sized blanket that are his loveys.

    DD's lovey is a little blanket with a stuffed animal head. It was given to me at my shower and the person who gave it to me told me it was a "lovey." I had never heard this term before and had no idea they could be anything but the little blankie with the stuffed animal head.
