Ok...so i had my son Nov 3rd of 2010. I didnt get to bf him for the first 24 hours because of the mag sulfate(i had sever precclampsia). But i did get to bf with him for a month and a half...but only a month and a half because i wasnt producing much milk. (reason for this was because they had left some placenta in me and i ended up with a nasty infection-and my hormones were very off).
So...Needless to say...Here i am 32 week pregnant today, and i have been debating on bfing again. I want to..believe me. But something tells me that i cant actualy bf from the breast....that i want to breast pump. I pumped with the last one...but i dont think i can actualy do directly from breast this time around. I guess my question is...am i wrong for not wanting to do this? I feel pumping would be better for me.
This pregnancy has gone alot better...all except the baby being super low at 25 weeks...and i started getting ultrasounds and NSTs every week since 25 weeks. But so far everything looks well. Im praying i get to make it full term!
I just want a lil advice for something that is so well pushed on people now adays.
Re: Am i in the right or in the wrong....
Like PP said, it's your choice. Here are a few things to keep in mind, though:
-The baby is much better at getting your milk to come in than a pump. If possible, can you try to nurse for the first week or two until your milk comes in good and strong, then switch to pumping?
-Pumping is a LOT more work. You have to pump, clean bottles and pump parts, feed the baby, clean that bottle, then do it all again in an hour. Until LO begins to space out feedings around 4 months, You will probably feel like all you do is pump and feed.
-After the initial hurdle, BFing is far easier than pumping and bottle feeding. Even now, DS gets a bottle once per week on Thursdays when he goes to DC in the afternoons and I hate pumping.
Why are you opposed to BF instead of EP?
Do whatever you want! It's a personal choice, much like how you will parent!
I could never EP. I do the weeks I am gone for work and find it so, so brutal.
Well i pumped with my son as well...because i wasnt producing enough. He was on 2 oz for the first 2 months...he was also getting fed every 2 hours because he was a premmie and they wanted him to gain weight.
Im not opposed to it as much as i think it would be werid. I like the idea of trying to bf untill i get a good milk supply going....i never thought about it that way. And who knows...things may change once i have him.
It is alot of work to pump. I was soooo tired after the first 2 weeks of doing it..but..i kept with it untill i couldnt ne more.
I guess i wanted others opinions and thoughts on what you would do.
I would at least give BF a shot. You never know what is going to happen. If BF doesn't work out, you can always switch to EP.
BF after a few weeks gets so much easier.
