2+ moms and child care

I think DH is being crazy. If we use daycare, I assume its most likely a flat rate and you pay even if the kid isn't there everyday. Like a monthly plan kind of thing. He agrees.

Here's the disagreement......if we get an out of their home sitter, I will not pay them if they are not watching the child. Like if I take a week vaca. He says you HAVE to. Please settle this debate with your experience. Thanks!!

Re: 2+ moms and child care

  • My SIL is a teacher has a nanny that she does not pay in the summer because she doesn't use her. I think if you have a nanny/babysitter you don't have to pay them when you aren't using them. That is the advantage to having one.
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.

  • I think it depends on the terms of the nanny/sitter.  When I nannied I did not get paid if I did not work.  I know that some will say that they will get some sort of reimbursement.  I know that if I nannied again, I would ask for some sort of compensation because it added up to a lot of money missed out and I depended on that money.

  • This definitely depends on your nanny/sitter and terms of agreement.  When I nannies full time, I got paid a set weekly rate, including two weeks paid vacation.  When the family went on vacation, I still got paid.  IMO, this is how you keep a good nanny around.

  • It depends on who you hire and what kind of a contract you have with them. An in-home provider will most likely (but not always) charge you for vacation weeks (yours and theirs). A nanny that you hire may be flexible enough to work on your terms which may include unpaid vacations. It all depends on the situation

  • Every in home sitter is different. My sister uses one and she doesn't pay if the kids aren't there. However, I work with people who have to pay no matter what. You would have to see what policies each person has.

  • We used an at home sitter until we enrolled dd in pre-school. Mil typically comes to visit for the summer, and we would pull dd from daycare. We didn't pay for the summer.
As far as paying went, if the dcp went on vacation we didn't pay her, but if dd was out due to a trip or something we still paid. We weren't required to but she had been hit hard by the recession, and she never charged extra if we were late picking dd up.

  • Well, it depends on what kind of relationship you have with your sitter. My son's sitter watches him in her home and does so much for him that I always pay her for her days off and vacations. I guess that is something you can negotiate, but you should keep in mind that a good, reliable sitter is worth her weight in gold so if you find someone you want to keep, you should consider it.

  • It all depends on what you agree to.  I usually said, if you can't make it, I don't pay.  If I don't need you, I do pay.  I get paid vacations, why shouldn't my sitter?  But, I wasn't going to pay if she took a vacation at a different time of year, since that defeated the purpose of having a nanny.

With in home daycare and daycare center, if they closed for a week, that was factored into the yearly/monthly price.  Ours closed the last week of the year and we didn't pay there.  But, when we took vacation any other time of the year, we still paid.  the same staff had to be there whether we were there or not.  It made vacations pretty pricey.

  • You still pay them.  You are paying to hold your kid's slot because they can't get someone to stay and pay for just the week you miss.  I have used daycares in the past where you earned "vacation time" after a year and could pick up to 2 weeks a year to not pay and your child not attend.  You might be able to negotiate something like this up front.
