Recommend your baby carrier....

Thinking of getting something for DH and I to use to carry baby when out and about and also for use at home to get some stuff done around the house....I've heard the moby is the best for your back.  Which do you have?  Do you like it?

Re: Recommend your baby carrier....

  • I LOVE my Moby and I get compliments (for lack of a better word) on it all the time. I have had several pregnant women come up and ask me about it because baby is so comfy and sleeps so well in there. Being hands free is awesome and she feels so secure and happy in it. MH uses a Baby Bjorn around the house and when he's letting the dog out.

  • We've been using a New Native Baby sling. C falls asleep it it constantly. And she doesn't sleep well.

  • Today was our first outing with the Beco Gemini, and I think we both really enjoyed it. She slept like a log, and I felt like she was really secure in there.

Is this one I can get at BRU?  Have heard a lot of good things about this carrier...

  • Love love love my moby wrap.  I'm kicking myself that I didn't buy one when I had DD.

Have you gone out somewhere with this? I have been thinking about getting a sling but I'm worried I'll drop her chasing after E.

  • loved my Ergo for DS when he was older. Got the Moby for DD and so far, we both like it. It's intimidating at first, but once you get it, it's comfy.

  • Sorry I don't know how to quote on my phone. Not sure if it's available @ BRU. I ordered mine on amazon. I thought it might be complicated to use, but it's been surprisingly easy to adapt to imo.

  • We have 4 carriers:

Moby - I love to use this around the house so I can get laundry or dishes done.  I also use it for doctor's appointments since I can put it on, jump in the car, and slide the baby in once we get there - and I can BF in it.  DH has his own and doesn't love it as much but mostly because he has another favorite.

Pikkolo - This is DH's favorite.  He uses it pretty much exclusively.  It's like the Ergo, only better.  It's good for infants without any fancy (or expensive) insert.  It's adjustable so both DH and I can wear it even though there's almost a foot difference between us.  It does both forward facing, back carry, and the typical newborn hold.  And it's REALLY comfortable - distributing weight between back/shoulders/and hips.

Babyhawk - This is my current favorite for any trip outside.  It has both front and back carry.  It is RIDICULOUSLY easy and quick to put on, which makes it ideal for errands since I can get it on in about 2.8 seconds.  It's really comfortable.  REALLY.  It's also cute (which is why DH doesn't like it - he thinks the pattern is too "girly" even though it's blue and green.  But he is jealous that I can throw it on and tie it so quickly.

Belle Baby - LBB is still just a pinch too small to wear this one, but it's more for the summer anyway since it's the most lightweight.  So we're planning to use this more when the weather gets warmer and he's a bit bigger.

(And of course, we also have a separate hiking carrier but that won't be used to LBB is 7 months.)

  • We have 3 carriers.

So far we have tried a peanut style sling which at least with a newborn is not a favorite I will try it again once she is older.

I have a Maya ring sling and it is awsome and so easy to take on and off. It is great for one handed breastfeeding and Scarlett just falls asleep in it.

I also have a Moby wrap but honestly I am still intimidated by trying to tie it.

  • We have the Beco... I've only tried it once so far, but I really like it!
  • I have a Baby K'tan, which is similar to the Moby but all one piece, and a Baby Hawk. They are both very comfy and easy to use. DD passes out as soon as she is put into either of them.

We also have a Bjorn from when DS was little. I hated it but DH loved it. It hurt my back after wearing it for very short periods of time.
