Today is my first day of maternity leave!! I had planned on working all the way up to LOs arrival but last night my DH and I had a talk and decided it would be better for me to start now. I have 12 weeks of FMLA but had only planned on taking 6 weeks since none of it is paid. However the last 3 days have been horrible. I come home every night in tears because of stupid people (although they probably aren't as stupid as my pregnancy hormones make them out to be) and it is just really stressing me out. My doctor is already pretty concerned about my blood pressure so I called HR last night and told them to fax the papers to my doctor because I was DONE! I am due monday so its not like I am taking a ton of extra time off but I feel so spoiled sitting here in front of my place in my pjs, snuggled with my puppy, drinking hot chocolate when I should be at work!! It's awesome!! Now for the big decision.... watch a movie or read a book?
Re: Maternity Leave!!
Woohoo!! Taking a week (if the baby waits) is a great idea. You'll feel so rested.
I vote read a book until you fall asleep then after the nap watch a movie until you fall asleep. HA
I too started earlier than I orginally planned. I took off on Monday and have been off all week. I am glad I did, I am now having some pretty uncomfortable contractions (not timeable) and they make it hard to sleep, but I can rest during the day
(These two weeks I took early dont knock time off of my post delivery time, it is just unpaid time off)
Enjoy your first day off!!
This is an excellent idea!!
You're only a week from your due date! You're SUPPOSED to be sitting in your PJs, snuggling your puppy and drinking hot cocoa
Sounds like you made the right decision. ENjoy your special quiet time.
Hell yeah you should be off! Why not!?
I'm off after next week and it's gonna feel goooood.
That's awesome! I had originally planned to work until the 10th (EDD is the 16th), but now I'm thinking about leaving at the end of next week. Work is also stressing me out more than it should right now, and I think I might leave early so that I can relax and be in a good space before LO arrives.
It doesn't affect the amount of time I get off after her birth, but it does mean the paid portion of my leave will be ending sooner, obviously. I think it's worth it, though!
Today is my first day on maternity leave as well! I am a nurse and work 7 days every two weeks, so I actually am only missing two days of work next week, but its so nice to be done! Its been really difficult being on my feet all day and even doing the minimal amounts of lifting I have to do to do wound treatments.
I am being induced on my due date, next Friday, so its nice to know I won't be sitting home more than a week waiting.
