hi ladies! they are almost here!! i just wanted to post here the one thing I'm really glad I did post delivery. everyone gives advice on what to do right before, and during labor, but right after is another story.
WEAR A COMPRESSION BELT. seriously. it's old school and i may get flack for this, but i put mine on the day we went home (so 2 days after giving birth) and 2 weeks later i was back in my jeans. i was in a situation where i only gained about 10 pounds during my pregnancy, so i'm sure if i had gained what i had tried to gain (25 to 30lbs as recommended) it would have taken longer to fit into those jeans. but i'm sure the compression belt had a lot to do with it.
a very strang and empty feeling happens when the baby is out. my belly was still the same size, just empty and flopping around. (gross i know). honestly, it wans't the stitches or vaginal pain after delivery that was the hard to handle, it was this strange empty feeling that made me almost nauseous. i couldn't lay on my side in bed b/c it made me too uncomfortable. but when i put the belt on (even to sleep) it made that feeling go away.
anyway, sorry for butting back into this board. i am just so glad someone told me to get one and to wear it as soon as possible.
good luck to everyone!
Re: Suggestion from the 0-3 month board...
I never wore one. I was back in my pre-baby jeans and clothes by 2 weeks pp.
It is nice that it worked for you, but I have yet to see any evidence that correlation is causation in this particular product.
I have tight nursing tops that make me feel skinny too, but they don't make me skinny.
My baby is two!!! Baby girl 9/17/09
My other baby is still a baby! Baby Boy 11-30-11
yeah well for me it was less about "Feeling skinny" and more about feeling comfortable after delivery. i will say i stopped wearing it around 3 weeks PP, and a week later my belly was bigger. so i put it back on when i was sleeping and back down my belly went. my suggestion was to try it, because for me it helped in more than one way. especially being able to sleep on my side when the feeling of my uterus rolling from side to side made me want to throw up
i got mine at babies r us. medela makes one that's small and goes on easily. they make some heavy duty ones, but the medela i wore was like a wide belt with velcro.
I think this is very old school. But my mom told me to do it and so I did... I wore that thing every day after leaving the hospital. I was back in my old clothes about 2 weeks PP also. I gained about 25lbs with my last pregnancy.
Again, I think it's very old school and I really have no idea if it actually worked but I'm doing the same again. Last time I just used a very tight girdle that my mom purchased for me. This time I think I will use the compression belt in the house and the girdle outside (I don't want the beld to show through my clothes and you are supposed to wear it 24/7) Especially since I was 10lbs heavier starting out this time around (gained all that weight back after weaning DS from BM).
I appreciate the suggestion.
I didnt use one with my first pregnancy and i was fine. Not necessarily in my PP clothes but i wasnt that worried about it.
yeah like i said, if i had gained more it wouldn't have had the same outcome. but it was such a big help trying to sleep on my side, or frankly move around like i normally did. the heavy feeling of my insides slopping around in there was not comfortable for me. maybe i'm the only one who has ever felt this way, but that belt held me together and was a blessing.
good for you for not needing one!
"I only gained 10 pounds and I'm back in my pre-prego jeans!" Yeah, this is EXACTLY what a bunch of big, uncomfortable woman approaching the end of pregnancy want to read about, how skinny you are.
I actually gained a bit ocver 40 lbs with DD and the only thing that helped me get my belly less hanging was this belt. I did not start wearing it until a week or so after I got back from the hospital, but after I did, it was a life saver. I was back in my pp clothes and even smaller about 2 weeks after I started wearing this belt.
Eh, I think those things are for suckers. BUT then again, a lot of people think that Itzbeen timers are for suckers and I love mine so I guess I'm just as much of a sucker as the next.
I'm glad it made you feel better though.
I don't think that is how she was trying to come across and I didn't take offense to it. My question is, is a compression belt the same as the belly bandit? I'm interested in using the bandit to help my muscles go back together. I still had diastasis recti 15 months after having DS1. I'd like to take care of that before I start trying for #3 down the road.
I appreciate the suggestion. With my son, I never lost all the weight and I started this pregnancy weighing a lot more than I did during my first pregnancy. I haven't gained as much, but I am overweight to begin with this time around....
Since this is my last pregnancy (and I'm 40) I need all the help I can get.... I'm going to get one... I didn't get one with my first and I regret not trying it...
haha calm down. what you dont know is i was 190 when i got pregnant. 200 when i gave birth. so skinny isnt the word to use. the point was only to say it made me more comfortable.10 to 1 odds you are smaller than me now.
I agree that they might be good after a C-Section, but otherwise I've read that they aren't recommended, because they basically make your ab muscles "lazier", and basically end up having the opposite effect of how they are intended.
But for a C-Section, I can see the benefit in helping you "brace yourself" when moving...for lack of better phrasing
