Question about "postpartum cleaning"...

How long did you continue to use the peri bottle with warm water?  I am 2 weeks pp, and I had a small, but 2nd degree tear internally.  I am comfortable now, hardly any pain sitting or standing or anything, so I am continuing to do it for cleanliness, but I will admit, it is getting old having to fill up the bottle every time I have to go!

Re: Question about "postpartum cleaning"...

  • I had a 4th degree tear....I continued to use the bottle until just before my 6 week PP appt. Is it weird that I actually liked using it? I felt that it helped clean me up much better down there than just wiping. I would say if you're feeling good and think you've healed from your tear, you should be fine to stop using it.

  • I use it once in awhile.  I've been using cottonelle wipes to keep the area clean and giving a good cleaning in the shower with the shower head.  Doctor said this is just as good.

  • I had a first degree tear. After about two weeks the bottle moved into the shower. I used it every time I bathed for several weeks after that.
  • I had an episiotomy and had quite a few stitches (think all the way to my rectum cut)... I stopped using it around 5 days PP. I always found the peri bottle a PITA and hated having to get warm water or carry it around with me.

  • A couple of weeks, I think. Honestly, I still use it to freshen up if I don't get a chance to shower like a normal person. I love that peri bottle.

  • i had a second degree tear also and stopped using the peri bottle after about a week and a half. basically once it wasn't uncomfortable to wipe normally.

  • I love mine, I still use it just to feel fresher because I'm still having to wear those horrendous middle school pads for PP bleeding. I have commented to my husband that I may use it forever, or we may have to invest in a bidet :)

  • When DD was born, I had a fourth degree tear and used it until my 6 week appt.  With DS#1 I used it for 3 weeks and this time 10 days.  I was pain free and the stitches had already dissolved so I didn't see the point.  I haven't had any problems but if you really want to know, I would contact your practitioner.
