TTC After a Loss

Post-m/c AF wonkiness

I know your cycles and AF can be pretty wonky after a m/c...I was wondering if anyone would mind sharing what changes you experienced. My m/c was in June, and the first AF was typical, albeit a smidge longer than normal at 7 days. Also had my typical hard-core cramping on CD2. My last two AF's have been only 2-3 days though with barely any cramping. Very strange...

Anyone else experience some AF craziness post-m/c?

Re: Post-m/c AF wonkiness

  • I don't have any advice because I've only had one AF since m/c but I'm curious as to what other people's experiences have been. Thanks for asking!!

  • My periods usually range from 5-7 days long with day 3 and/or 4 being torture. My first few cycles after my m/c were way worse than normal. They were incredibly heavy and they were more painful the my d&c. About 4-5 months after, my cycle mellowed out and has pretty much returned to its usual flow and pain. The only thing that's really changed is that I tend to experience nausea more than I ever did prior. Like yesterday, I actually had to stay home from work because everytime I sat up, I felt like I was going to vomit.

  • Hi, I haven't introduced myself but I m/c about 3 yrs ago and again this week.  My last m/c, I bled for a month. Lightly but it was a good month.  My first AF after that was heavy for about 2 days and spotting for one day with terrible cramps for CD1 and 2. It continued like that for a few cycles.  It eventually turned back to normal but I don't remember how long it took...

  • I have had only 1 AF since my m/c (and that was Provera induced) but this is what happened to me so far.  Before I was PG my cycles were 35 days, day 1 would usually be some what light with minor cramps, day 2 major cramps (but not too horrible where it affects my life) and lasts 5 days.  This time around (again I had to be put on Provera to get her going- I was only on it for 5 days and I was 9 and half weeks out from my m/c) They were all pretty light, with days 2-4 were a bit more moderate.  Day 2 my cramps were REALLY bad, lucky it didn't hit until after I came home from work.  But so far AF 1 wasn't as bad as I thought.  oh yeah and it lasted for 7 days this time.
  • I wish I had more of an answer for you, but I totally out of whack :(  My d&c was 8/16 and since then I just had spotting....1st time was sept.15-21-about 4wks after d&c and I called the doc and she said to count it as AF but not a normal one so she wants us to wait TTC until I get a normal AF. Then I had spotting for 3 days around Oct. 11 and then some spotting yesterday and today!! I am so confused and irritiated :( I just want AF to get here so we can TTC!! I have my yearly doc appt Nov. 1 so I will bring my chart and see what the doc says. Also, before my m/c, My cycles were very irregular (anywhere from 5wks-12wks) after coming off bcp in nov. 2009. I was really hoping I would have more regular cycles since the d&c....so frustrating.  I am curious to what other ladies say.

I had my D&C on the same day :(

My cycles have been all out of whack since the D&C. Immediately after the D&C I had some light spotting for a few days but nothing too extreme.  It then took about 4 1/2 weeks for AF to come for the first time. It was the the normal length for me but it was SO heavy and with terrible cramps and lower back pain. After the cycle was over I had some light spotting about 4 days later. Pre-pregnancy I had a 26 day cyle and was expecting my next AF according to my previous cycle length but I was 7 days 'late'. I took some pregnancy tests but I was pretty sure I wasn't prego. So, after 8 days I finally got AF and it was heavy and longer than normal. I've heard that it took a few cycles to get it back to normal but I am wondering if this is the new 'normal'. I think that it is all just a waiting game. I did call my OB to have a follow-up appointment just to be sure that everything is OK.

I'm so sorry for your losses, and welcome to the board. I really appreciate your input...This sounds like what I have experienced, but the cramping hasn't been as bad.

Thank you ladies so much for sharing! I'm anxious to see how the next cycle plays out. I did talk to the doctor yesterday and she says this is completely normal, so that is happy. I do think it's interesting how everyone's body behaves differently!
