Did you cry when DC got his/her shots?

I feel like I'm in the minority here..but this has never bothered me. I figure it really doesn't hurt that bad and they only cry for a couple minutes and then they are fine. Then I feel guilty for not feeling bad about it.

I'm referring to infants here...I'm actually thinking it will start to bother me more as they get older and actually know what is going on....

  • Nooo...

funny story.  when Jackson got his two month shots, he was all smiling at the nurse, and then she gives him the shot. he SCREECHES.  I start dying laughing.

NOW, where is my MOTY trophy?

  • Nope, I figure they are for her own good and she usually will get a sucker. When she was little, I would just give her the boob and she was okay.

  • I didn't cry, but I felt so bad!  I can't watch him in pain!

  • Yes, I welled up the first time.

After that, I'd have MH do it with the nurse, so I never saw it again, but still got weepy.

Now, though, I don't get weepy with #2.  I feel awful and hold him tight afterwards, but there's nothing I can do about it, kwim?

  • No. I cringed when he screeched the first time at his 2 mo appt, but I was moving so fast to pick him up and hug him, there was no time to cry.  (And I wouldn't have anyway.)

  • I did cry when they were itty bitty and got their first shots but I didn't cry when they were born, I didn't cry when I held them... that stuff makes me feel like a monster. Sad

  • A little, the first time. My husband, on the other hand, cried like a baby. He hated it and has not gone back. I think it's really sweet, but he would hate if he knew I just told that. LOL.
  • The first set of shots, yes. ?I cried and she cried.?

    ?

The 2nd set... she didn't even cry. ?She just kind of looked around and didn't care at all.

    ?

  • No, the only really bothered me once.  But, DS barely cries at all, so it isnt that hard to deal with.
  • Yes, I confess I did once when DD got her first set. She was sooooo upset that I felt horrible for her. Even the nurse was a bit confused by her seemingly over the top reaction. Even back then, Ry was a drama queen. :)

  • no. Rowen was born 10 weeks early and had countless IV's a PICC line, tested his blood every hour and heart surgery. vaccines are nothin' compared to that.

  • I did cry during the very first set.  It was so sad that she was in pain.  However, I really psyched myself up to be strong at the next appointment and since then I've been fine.  She still gets really worked up, poor darling.
  • first set, yes.  And she pretty much did the same thing as eclaires little one - happy and smiles, then absolute scream of terror.  She was pretty fussy the rest of the day, so I felt bad about it of course.

After that she barely noticed them.  I did fine, she only cried when they stuck the needle in, then she was fine not more than a minute later.

She didn't even notice when she got her flu shot a couple weeks back.  I was very surprised, but it was great not to have to deal with any tears.
