Went to our 6 month appointment last Friday and the Doctor asked if we would like to give LO the Flu Shot along with her other routine immunizations. I had not thought about it at all so declined until I can do my own research. The Doctor stressed that I should come in within the next 2 weeks to get the shot administered. I have done research and can find information both directions in supporting and also not supporting giving flu shots to 6 month old babies.
How does everyone else feel on this? I'm torn!
Re: Flu Shot????
I got it for Brook (well the 1st of 2, get the 2nd next month). My main reasoning for it was that we will be staying with my IL's through the holiday. Since BIL is 10 and is exposed to everything at school, I felt that it would be better to have her immunized in case he comes home with the flu.
If we hadn't been planning on staying with them, I doubt I would have had it given to her since she's already getting so many vaccines.
This is exactly what we are doing.
We haven't had our 6m visit yet, so i'm glad you got me thinking about it. I fought my OB on the flu shot (to the point I had to switch OBs) while I was pregnant. I had never gotten a flu shot in my life, but have had reactions to immunizations before and didn't want to chance it while pg. Also, I had the flu the year before, so I had immunity to whatever strain that was...
Not sure how I feel about LO getting it at 6m. I am a SAHM and he's not exposed to much, but i'll likely go with my pedis rec.
We got the first of two at her 6 month appointment. I also delayed one of her vaccines, so she wouldn't be getting so many and we will catch her up when she gets her second flu shot.
I work in healthcare, so it's not up for debate at my house.
B got is at his 6 month appt.

Usually flu shots have several strains of the flu in them and this one also includes the Swine Flu. Even if you got the flu last year, it doesn't mean you won't get it a different strain this year.
Everyone in our house gets a flu shot. In the past 11 years, I've personally known 3 people who have died of flu complications. My best friend, a 16 year old student and my colleague's 8 month old son. The "regular" flu, not H1N1. Only one of these people had a medical condition (asthma) that *may* have contributed to the severity of the flu. Just not worth the risk. Plus, most (if not all) of the reasons I hear for not giving the vaccine to a healthy person have no scientific/medical backing.
I also feel that I have a responsibility to protect others in the community who have a medical condition that prevents them from getting vaccines.
