The doctors determined I was definitely in pre-term labor, but have no idea what brought it on. I went from having contractions every 5-6 minutes when we left our house, to every 2-3 minutes by the time they got me hooked up on the monitors 30 minutes later, and went from being half a cm dilated to 2cm in less than 2 hours (so everything was happening pretty crazy fast). They gave me magnesium and some other medicine in pill form (can't remember the name) to stop the contractions, and a steroid shot to help LO's lungs in case I do end up delivering (side note: never, ever look at that needle if you end up in this situation). I get another steroid shot tonight. The good news is that LO is looking great, but definitely hates the monitors-keeps kicking at them and trying to move away from them, so the nurses are constantly having to come in and readjust them.
Right now, the contractions have slowed and both my OB and the MFM doctor seem cautiously optimistic that I won't be having the baby this weekend. They are keeping me at least through Saturday night for continued monitoring, and to make sure that the contractions stop for good before sending me home. After that, I'll be on complete bed rest for at least two weeks, then I'll be re-evaluated to see if I can go on modified bed rest, probably until I deliver. At this point it's too early to say whether I'll make it to term or not- right now they are just hoping for another two weeks. I'm hoping for another 4, but I'll take what I can get at this point.
Anyways, any continued T&Ps that LO decides to stay put for as long as possible would be appreciated. I'll update if anything changes.
