I opted to take the Depo shot instead of the mini pill because I just didn't want to bother having to remember taking a pill every day while dealing with a newborn, plus I EBF. I've had the injection twice, and OMG...the weight gain! I am FOURTY pounds above my pre-pregnancy weight! Fourty freakin' pounds! I only gained twenty while pregnant! I have never been this big in my entire life, and no matter how much I work out or how well I eat, the weight just isn't going anywhere.
SO...FREAKIN'...FRUSTRATED...
Now that my husband has this new job and we have medical insurance, I think I'm going for a non-hormonal IUD. For those of you who took Depo, how long after stopping the injections did the weight start coming off? And any recommendations for a non-hormonal IUD?
Re: Damn you, Depo
I despised depo. It gave me a light all-month-long period, and approx. 5 lb gain every month. I didn't get the constant bleeding until the third shot, 'though. If I remember right the OBGYN said there would still be lingering hormones for about a month. I started losing weight right around when I would have been due for another 3 month shot. I immediately switched to ortho tricyclen lo.
I got Mirena, so I no recs for a non-hormonal IUD
Good luck!
That sucks. I had the depo shot for years, but lost weight on it. I did get pregnant while on it though...
HATEHATEHATE Depo. I gained 30lbs in 6 months while on it. It took 6 months after I stopped to even start losing the weight. I was down to the final 10lbs when I got pregnant.
Not to mention it changed my personality and made sex downright painful. I had absolutely NO sex drive. Zilch. Nada.
That's another thing that I've noticed. ZERO sex drive. Some of that may be psychological because of the weight gain, but still...just yuck.
