Babies: 0 - 3 Months

jogging stroller ?

So I remember hearing w/DD that jogging strollers shouldn't be used until LO is about 6 months old because of their lack of spine/neck/head control. I am wondering though, if I have one that lays back pretty well and I use a head stabilizer, and only using it for walks on smooth pavement, would that be ok?

Re: jogging stroller ?

  • If it reclines all the way or if you use a car seat attachment and you're only walking, it's no different than any other stroller. You have to wait to jog with them til their head control is better but walking is fine.

  • I used my BOB when LO was 3 weeks without the car seat adaptor and just took it easy. Then at 5 weeks I used the adaptor and jogged very slowly on a smooth surface. LO is now 8 weeks and I just used it on a hiking trail.

I think you will be fine if you take it easy.

  • I was under the impression you should not jog with them until around 6 months or when they have good control of their head (my sister got the ok from her pedi at 4 months with her first daughter because she had strong neck muscles and great head control).  I did not think it was ok to go jogging with the car seat adaptor.  Right now I use my BOB just for walks with the car seat adaptor.

  • IT's a double Bob stroller, but I didn't want to pay almost $100 for the adapter. I would only use it walking right now, I'll go jogging/running when DH is home and I don't have to take the kids.

  • My jog is just as fast as my speed walk. I am no heavy duty runner by any means!

  • You should NEVER jog with the carseat attached, it makes it too top heavy and is too dangerous.

Snuzzler, head support etc... or not, waiting until 6 months or older is the safest.  Their necks and heads are not developed enough to withstand the bouncing from running or walking on super bumpy surfaces.
