Fashionistas - Dress me for Chicago

Ok so I'm huge! I have not gained one pound but my belly is the size I was at 8 months w B. And I'm not sure a coat will button :( I may have to buy a new one..

Ok so anyway we are going on a trip in 4 weeks and it's going to be cold, so what do I wear? I have lots of skinny jeans and tall uggs, black classics and camel tall side zips.  I am alos a scarf person and I have all kids of cute prints and bright colors. To me sweaters are so umcofortable and I hate being hot or to bundled up in a store/museum. Thanks y'al!

  • I'd wear a light long sleeve shirt under a cardigan, scarf and then tie up the whole package with a skinny belt.

This blogger is super cute with that combo all the time.

  • I dunno, I'd get a coat. You can get a maternity coat relatively well priced at places like Target and Motherhood. It doesn't have to last you too long, afterall, so no need for a super expensive one Wink. It's so cold in Chicago, a coat is really going to be a staple in what you wear up there. PLUS, then you can take it off anytime you're inside and not have to have such bulky clothing on.

Have fun!! Takes lots of pics!

  • I was in Chicago last week when an early front came in.  High of 40s, crazy wind and rain.  LOVELY.  I would rec comfy waterproof/water resistant boots because you will likely do a lot of walking and this time a year there can be a lot of rain and dare I say snow.  I would definitely bring a coat if possible.  The weather right now is 60 one day and 40 the next.  If you are plannig on doing things like Navy Pier a lot of  that is outside and it's cold right on the lake.  Chicago in general is a more casual city imo because of the changes in weather.  A cute scarf and boots go a long way.  You might also want to bring a hat and gloves.  You can easily take those off when you go inside and they make a big difference outside.

     Have fun!

  • Also, all of the big museums and sights have coat checks if you don't want to carry it around when you're in there.

I agree. It's easy to think about getting away with a cardigan/scarf combo because 99% of the time that's fine here but that's some serious COLD in Chi and I'd want a coat. Plus, it's an excuse to shop Wink

  • You will die without a coat.  Buy one.  I wore a full-on winter coat this morning, and I'm semi-used to the weather up here.  4 weeks from now?  You'll want a parka, mittens, and a warm scarf.

  • As someone who lives close to Chicago, DEFINITELY get a coat!  It is really, really cold here already (spoken as a former Texan).  Like 50s during in the day and 30s at night and Chicago has the water so it gets a lot colder there.  We have our down comforter on our bed already and I do not go outside without a coat on.  If your Uggs have been sprayed with waterproofing spray, they should be OK.  That's pretty much all I wore last winter.  Have fun!

  • I lived in Chicago during my last pregnancy and my "costume" was basically skinny jeans/leggings with riding boots and a long sweater.. I actually had a sweater coat for the fall that worked out really well. Since they're not that heavy, you may get a use out of it here also. I also have a maternity coat you can borrow if you'd like (size 8ish/medium).
