My daughter sleeping schedule for the past month or so has been horrible. She used to sleep from 9-2am, i'd nurse her then she would sleep until 6-7 in the morning. Now she sleeps 7-11, then up every couple hours until 6-7 in the morning. I need to re-train her to fall back asleep on her own, but she may be teething (doesn't have any teeth yet) and I want to be there to comfort her. Anyone else experience this?
Re: Up every 2 hrs at night
We just passed this stage. I'm guessing it was a combo of teething, then a growth spurt.
We've gone through this a few times and still have no teeth.
3 things have helped:
1) DH getting up with her so that she knows she's not getting food. Then I can get up with her too and after a few days of rocking, she seems to go back to fewer wake ups again.
2) A total mess up in schedule for a few days followed by returning to normal (either from going on vacation or spending a few days with family or having late nights).
3) Pre-emptive waking. (don't know the official name for it) The theory is that if you wake a baby a bit before he typically wakes up (for example, 10:30 instead of 11) and do all the same things you would do at the wake up, it kind of "resets" the system. We've done it with just making a bit of noise so that she comes out of deep sleep but doesn't fully wake up. The other night, I was coughing all night and she could hear it. She slept for almost 13 hours straight which she NEVER does. [It sucks that I didn't benefit from that sleep!]
this. plus add nighttime separation anxiety.
