Would you ever....

Would you ever or have you ever had boudior photos taken? I am seriously considering it...I found a great photographer who does beautiful photos and her sitting fee includes hair/makeup. I talked to DH about it (he of course loves the idea), and we agreed if I did it would be my Christmas & birthday present. It's just so outside my comfort zone...I'm totally not a girly girl, I'd even have to buy lingerie and heels. However I also feel I'll look back one day and realize how skinny I was when I thought I was fat. Besides, all the pro photos we have are of our kids. I haven't really liked a picture of myself since our wedding 5 yrs ago.

It just seems like a huge amount of money with me on maternity leave for a year. Her sitting fee is $450, and that only includes a few prints. However, it's not like I'll be ordering a wall print, lol....so the photo cost should be minimal. I also rarely spend money on myself, and I just want to do this for ME.

 Here's her blog: https://www.katchstudios.com/boudoir/

I am also totally intimidated by how beautiful some of these women are!!

Re: Would you ever....

  • I actually had them schedule.  A local photog was doing them  for a great price.  In the end...I kinda chickened out.  And disappointed in myself that I didn't go through with it.

  • While I would sit for one...I don't think I'd pay for it at this point in my life. I'm nowhere near the condition, body wise, I'd want to be...and I just don't think it's worth it to just have a book of pictures that I wouldn't even put out in my house. I don't know. I think it would be lots of fun. But I'd rather spend $500 on something else at this point!

  • If I was as skinny as I was when we got married I would totally do it...right now, I still can't get into my pre-pregnancy clothes!!!!

  • Hey, if you're up for it, I'd say do it.  I don't think I could personally do it though.  I was super uncomfortable with our engagement shoot, so I can only imagine how uncomfortable I'd feel wearing barely any clothes and trying to look sexy.  Unless I suppose I had LOTS of wine beforehand. LOL

  • I did it for DH as a wedding gift.  I paid $350 and that included a photo book and access to the digital file so I could print them.  They came out amazing.  The photog is also a hair & make up artist, so that was included in the package.  She did such a great job, I probably would have paid more.

  • I would if I was happier with my body. I haven't been happy with it since Senior year in high school.

  • I did it for a wedding gift for my husband. I paid $750 and that included all of the images and the custom designed book. HE LOVES IT! He still looks at it to this day. It's super fun. The lady who did our wedding photos did them for us.

  • I would definately do it. However, I would definately try to find someone for cheaper. That is alot of money and i'm sure you can find someone else in your area who can take great pics.  Make sure it's a woman photographer so you feel more comfortable. I plan on doing it someday when my body is back in shape. I may even have DH join in on the fun and get some sexy ones of both of us together.

  • I have done those types of pictures because I used to do some modeling. They are fun. Right now with this body I have...not so much  :/
  • Yes I have done it and I am a totally shy, quiet girl. I did it when I was 8 wks pregnant for my DH as a wedding gift.  I found a lady photographer who lives about 20 min. from me. I was so nervous but she made the experience great. I was so happy that I did it and my DH loved it. It was $350 for 2 hr session and that included numerous outfit changes and a 12 page photo album of my favorite prints. I even got a cd of the 300+ photos she took. Looking back, I am happy I did it, she made the experience great and really took the time to make me feel comfortable. If its something you want to do, then I say do it.

  • I did a mini b-pic session on my wedding day when everyone else was getting ready. I didn't have to pay extra for it since she was already there. I gave it to DH for our first anniversary and I don't think he ever looks at them.

  • I don't think I could do it. Even if I lost all this pregnancy weight (still have 20 lbs. to go! Sad). Like pp said, to spend that kind of money on something that I would only show my husband just doesn't make sense financially to ME. Now if money isn't an issue and you are comfortable with your body, then I'd say go for it!
  • I think the gift should be for your husband not you but other than that I say go for it.  I really wish I would have done something like that for my husband either as a wedding gift or a going away gift (he deployed shortly after we married).  Maybe I'll do it for our 5 year anniversary.

  • I used to do a ton of shoots like that for the burly-q. What I suggest doing is looking into the local burlesque scene and seeing if there are any burly-q photogs looking for models, and contact one of them. Usually you can arrange a CHEAP session because they like to have the photos for their portfolios.

You could also save by doing your own hair and make up, and if you'd like I could give you a walk through on easy vintage hair and makeup :)

  • I would totally do it and I think I may do it for our 5 year wedding anniversary.  That gives me just under a year to get this body back into shape!!

I say if you have the money to do it go for it!

  • I totally would if I was pleased with my body instead of disgusted. I have never been ok with my body so I probably won't ever do it.

  • I did a mini-session and I think I paid $100-$200 for a DVD of the photos and a small album. I did it before I got married and surprised my husband. I convinced a friend to do a session the same day as me. We had quite a few drinks beforehand, and actually had a lot of fun. I'm glad I did it; it was more for me than DH. I think I'll like looking at the photos someday when I'm old and wrinkley :-) Right now they are locked up in the safe, because there is really nothing else to do with them!

  • I did some topless pics while we were in Dominican Republic last year for our anniversary. I was topless on the beach so it wasn't a big deal. I'm really glad I have them now to remember my smaller, perky, perfect boobs by lol! I say go for it!

  • I plan on doing a session, regardless of how my body looks/whether or not I'm personally "happy" with my body, after the first of the year, so I can send them to my husband after he deploys.

I came into this discussion after Scarlette posted her "girl power" post... and I agree with her whole-heartedly. While my "weight" doesn't bother me... my c-section flab does... but I know this is MY issue with myself. My husband doesn't "see" it like I do, and it sure as heck doesn't bother him. He still pretty much attacks me like we're two teenagers in the back seat of a car, and on a VERY regular basis. Even though I don't always feel sexy in the least, he sure makes me know he thinks otherwise.

  • I did them as a wedding gift and am planning to do them again around when LO turns 1, because that will be MH's 30th b-day.

For those of you saying you wouldn't because you don't like your body, you'd be amazed at what a self esteem booster it can be! With some awesome, flattering lingerie, fancy hair and make up, and a good photographer, I can guarantee you'll see yourself in a new, sexier, light ;)

  • I did it for my wedding and I loved it! I'm a rather reserved girl but I felt so awesome strutting around this giant studio in my skivies!  I was in shape then, though.  I wouldn't do it now.  But photoshop can do amazing things! Just sayin'.

  • Right now? No, I would love to spend 500 on a personal trainer though lol However if I were in great shape I would say absolutely! What a fantastic gift idea for DH! In fact I may do this one day lol

  • I did it while I was 37 weeks pregnant!  We bought a groupon for it, and I knew I wouldn't want to do it after giving birth and I loved it.  It was really fun!  I, too, am usually pretty shy about being in my undies in front of people, but I just decided to get over myself and get into it.  The pics came out pretty awesome, but now I'm not so sure where to hang my print! Smile
