Early u/s wrong for gender!

A friend of mine had two early boy guesses at 16 & 17 weeks, they both said boy, one was a dr here at work, this week she had her anatomy scan at 21 weeks and the tech said girl! She was shocked and thrilled and didn't know if she should believe them so a dr at work scanned her to double check and he agreed for sure girl!

Re: Early u/s wrong for gender!

  • WOW see this scares me. What if we buy everything for one gender and it ends up they were wrong??

  • This is not what I want to hear the day of my elective u/s, Mrs. Teddy! lol
  • aaand that's why i'm not pushing for something today and waiting until Thanksgiving.

My stepbrother is obviously a boy, but the dr said girl at 20 weeks.  They didn't find out until he was born, but that was YEARS ago.

  • OMGosh! I rarely hear of them being wrong for boys.  Oh please Lord let this baby still be a BOY! LOL

Yeah, I know. I figured I'd be skeptical if they said girl, but  that if they said boy, I'd be pretty convinced.

  • This just happened to my friend last week and is the EXACT reason why we are not banking on our early "guess" for a boy.. we shall see what happens next week..

  • Eek! This is why I didn't want a guess at the NT scan, though I would think a later elective u/s would be more accurate. I really don't want to know until I KNOW. I realize it's not 100% certain until it pops out, but I guess the later, the better.

Yeah, this...when we got our boy guess last weekend, she was 100% sure...and I'm not a professional, but if you saw the pictures, it's pretttttty definite boy parts...I wonder how you could get something wrong, unless it's way early of a guess?

  • This is making me feel better about the fact that I don't have an ultrasound until 20 weeks!
  • I'd be scare of having an early u/s gender guess wrong, even though they can be wrong at 19 weeks I *hope* it will be quite obvious.

IRL I've heard of two predictions being wrong and they found out at birth, it's rare, but does happen.

  • Thats crazy!!! Yea I do feel like boy guesses are less likely to be wrong, but I guess a it could go either way. I was asking our tech about it at our 3d u/s and he showed me side profile too with the scrotum and penis. He said he hasn't been wrong yet and he's been doing them for 14yrs. Now I know they say some people wouldnt go back and tell the tech they were wrong, but if your paying a minimum of $100, and hes wrong you bet i'll at least be making a call. Anyway I guess we'll find out for sure in April :)

  • This is probably why my OB won't do one until I'm over 18 weeks.  So, I may as well get it out of my mind that I want to go earlier than that!

  • when my sister was pregnant with her last child they told her twice it was a girl and then she had one more u/s when she was like 6 or 7 months and they told her it was a boy,she had to take all the girl stuff back. Her husband took it the hardest because it was their last and already had 2 boys.

The doctor today was explaining today that early on the clitoris is very pronounced and the labia can appear like a scrotum.

  • Well, that lady tonight had better get it right. lol
  • Wow, that's crazy. I don't consider 17 weeks an early guess. My OB is very conservative and they will do the anatomy scan and tell the sex at 17 weeks without issue.

  • Yikes! All the more reason I'm proud to be a part of Team Green. Even at 30weeks I'd be skeptical of the sex the tech announces. Maybe that's just me, I feel like I'm always going to be that .00001% of crazy statistics. Haha.
