January 2011 Moms

CP: Birthday Party Location *long*

I made a list, and potentially am inviting 46 people. I would assume about 30 will definitley come, unless there are scheduling conflicts. My house is not giant by any means, and I have never hosted a winter (inside) party for this many before. I would LOVE to have it at my house, and it sounds much easier prep wise. Parking could be a pain on a city street, and I would have to shuttle my two large mutts somewere else for the afternoon.

My parents house is 30 times the size of mine, about 15 minutes away. Ample parking, plenty of seating and space to mingle. All of these people I would invite have been to my parents before, it would not be akward. But, I would have to go there and set up, and have less control- as my mom would want in on this.

Thoughts? Cut down my list? Or just go for it at my house, it will be fine? I'm only thinking about it now because I feel like I should obviously ask my mom, and I want to start working on invites before the holidays get here.

  • I voted have it at your parents' house. Giving up control may sound crappy, but I bet that the day of the party you'll be glad your mom was there to help.

  • I agree with SH! Also future parties will be much smaller with her little friends so having them at your house will be easier.

  • Haha I voted having at at your parents place. Like SH said, you will need someone else's help plus you won't have to worry that what if all 45 people show up, what are you going to do? I also feel the same way because we live in an apt and we had to rent a room. It sucks but I am glad it's not out our place now (if it were big enough).... because when we are done preparing everything, we will have to keep the place extremely clean, etc,

  • I was super torn but I voted have it at your house. Only because you can start the tradition now and you won't want to have it at your mom's every year (I'm guessing).

However, the other option I was torn between was to go for it at your moms. I agree with everything PP have said - you'll love your mom's help, it'll be easier for you cause you won't have to clean like crazy before and after (you can help your mom if she wants it), people will be more comfy, etc.

I'm in the same boat as you - we're considering renting a place or having it at my house but my guest list is about the size of yours but all 45 will come. I like the convenience of having it out to be honest but that will bust the budget so I dunno!?!

We're only doing a big party because she's turning one.... don't know if it's the same with OP. For the future years, LO will have her party at home or some relative's place lol

  • Me too, I am going all out for this one. I'm sure the rest of them will just be close family, or kids parties. I LOVE planning parties, so I am pretty excited to have one big one.

I am throwing around the idea of a Dr. Seuss/ Cat in the Hat theme. Not sure.

I thought about doing Dr. Seuss.  They did that for my baby shower and it was awesome.  I think we are going to do sock monkey though.  I love looking at pinterest to get ideas.  Although, I'm sure I will feel like a failure when all is said and done since it will not be as awesome as the stuff on pinterest.

Haha same here, I was thinking the same!!! Their stuff is so cute with the professional pics and everything. ugh...I am taking off from Thanksgiving so hopefully, I can get crafty stuff done then. I have made two pomanders so far (one looks like crap), and I am making the banner (have to re-do) and the invitations are almost ready to go, just waiting until the right time to mail them.
