Food Allergy

Cut out dairy 3 weeks ago...now what?

I apologize for coming here and asking random questions here and there, but I have a 22 month old with allergies to milk, egg and peanuts. He presented with crazy mucousy stools with TEENY bits of blood around 4 months, also eczema and terrible colic, sleep issues, etc. I gave up dairy and he was a new baby within a week...then we discovered the egg/peanut allergies at 9m when he was formally tested.

Fast forward....now my 3.5 month old DD was having very mucousy stools starting around 2 months or so, but no blood visible, and none of the other issues he had. But the mucous (and stinky poo!!) was enough to get me to at least try cutting dairy to see how that goes, but now it's been 3 weeks today and she still has mucous. It's better...I can actually see some of the normal bf poop "curds" in there, but still mucousy...and sometimes pretty foul smelling. I know it can take awhile for dairy to fully leave the system, so I plan on keeping it cut out...but at what point should I try to cut out something else, like soy?? I am just afraid because it seems soy is in EVERYTHING and I'm so used to my dairy-free diet from DS but a lot of my replacement go-to's have soy. I don't think I can get her tested for another couple months at least....

I mean, I don't see any blood, just the mucous, and she's a very happy baby...no pain or anything...if she seemed to have discomfort I'd obviously cut out whatever I had to in a heartbeat, but I'm just confused at this point!!

  • I agree.. i would try soy also. You can wait another week and see if her BM's are better since it does sometimes takes about 4 weeks.  But soy is a huge culprit in this case.. over 50% of kids reacting to cows protein are also having issues with soy.

There are a ton of things you can have soy/dairy free. I even just found out that there is mayo that is soy/milk free (thanks to this board!)..

Also.. i would double check your diet.. maybe there is something new that you are having and it has something you're missing. I can't tell you how many things i missed while on a dairy free diet.  you probably know already, but avoid ingredients with Casein and Whey also.
