If you have older LOs, a Q...

When were you able to pick them up(i.e. lift them in and out of the car, into highchairs, into cribs/beds, etc)??

My DDs are each roughly 24 lbs. I wince at 2 wks pp thinking of having to lift them in and out of their low cribs!! I don't want to overdue it and my dr. hasn't called me back yet with my questions...

TIA

  • I didn't lift DD until 4 or 5 weeks.  She was very understanding about my very big boo boo and how the doctor said I couldn't pick her up.  She was allowed to climb up in my lap to sit on it, if she was gentle.

  • I was told not to lift anything heavier than 15lbs for 6 weeks PP. I hated not being able to pick DS up, but I also didn't want to reopen my incision.

  • I didn't do any lifting of my son until DH went back to work.  He took a measly 2 weeks off.  After that I didn't have much of a choice, I would lift him if I HAD to but I changed him on the couch instead of the change table, and tried to avoid it if possible.  I had a hard recovery with #2 and it hurt a lot when I lifted him.  If you have someone that can do it, then great, but if you don't then you gotta do what you gotta do.  I was also driving at 2 weeks pp and had no problems with that though...

     This!

  • I'm dreading this. I almost switched my son into a toddler bed for this very reason, but he does so well in his crib I don't want to mess with a good thing.

Luckily my mom lives close by and can come over a lot to help me the first couple of weeks after DH goes back to work!

  • I wasn't able, but had to w/in 1 week PP.  I was very careful and didn't carry my older DC on my hip until 6w PP.

  • I was really bad about that, actually. I lifted her the day I got home from the hospital, but I was already sitting down so I didn't use my stomach muscles nearly as much as I would have if I was standing. DH did most of the lifting the first 3-4 weeks, and if I had to lift her (I SAH alone so it had to be done at times) I made sure to VERY carefully squat down and lift with my legs as much as possible.

    Our family is complete!

  • Once I found out I was pregnant, I started working with DD to do things more independently (like she can climb into her car seat, I just hold her hands for support) so I wouldn't have to lift.

Now we've been talking to her that after the baby comes, I am going to have a big boo-boo on my tummy and may not be able to do certain things but I still love her but may need to play with her from the couch instead of the floor, etc.
