LO and Infant Car Seat?

I was told right after my c/s not to lift anything heavier than the baby. What I can't remember is for how long after?

At 2 wks pp, were/are you able to lift your baby in his/her infant carseat? I'm off my pain meds now so I am cleared to drive if need be, but wasn't sure if I get the green light to lift DS in and out of the car in his carrier?

TIA

Re: LO and Infant Car Seat?

  • I'm pretty sure I was restricted for 2 weeks.

However, at around 3.5 or 4 weeks, I began to experience pain around my incision. I realized it was because I had started driving my SUV again instead of DH's car, so I had to lift the car seat a lot higher and reach further to get it into the base. I stopped putting him in (had whoever was with me put him in) and the pain went away.

If you start lifting LO in the carrier, just be careful and be smart about what you choose to do.

  • I think I was about 3 or 4 weeks PP before I could comfortably lift and carry the infant seat... those things are heavy!

  • I was "restricted" as well...but I was lifting the carseat and him at 1 week pp.

  • I was told no more than LO & the car seat after leaving the hospital. I didn't trust myself at first to carry her in her seat at first. When we left the house DH was always with me so I let him carry her up and down the stairs! After our first week home I trusted myself to pick her up in her car seat and carry her down the stairs to the car.

  • Yes, I was lifting the car seat into the car by 2 weeks PP.  Just don't carry it all over the place.

  • I didn't lift anything, not even baby alone, for two weeks. Even after two weeks it was pretty painful to lift the carseat, so my husband and parents did that for as long as a month. I had a rough recovery though.

  • MH was home for a month so I didn't lift Lucas in his car seat. (His company closed the day we came home from the hospital)

This was me as well. I was lucky my DH has a flexible job that allowed him to work from home a good chunk of that time!

  • I lifted DD in her car seat no problem right after my c-section.  I wasn't given any restrictions on lifting anything though, just told no exercise.
