Anyone plan or have had VBAC in Lansing????

Wondering about birth stories for VBAC moms in Lansing.   We are due in Feb 2012, and plan on delivering via VBAC at Ingham Regional Medical Center if I stay with my current provider.   But my doctor (meridian womens health) claims they are supportive but have several stipulations on VBACS  (epidural, cant go past due date, must stay in bed to be monitored, doesnt want you to labor at home, etc)   So not sure if I should get new doc.  But any info people can tell me about VBAC in Lansing would be very very helpful.

  • I'm pregnant with my first, so I obviously don't have experience with a VBAC. Are midwives allowed to be your provider with a VBAC? If so, I have heard nothing but good things about Sameerah, the midwife with Meridian Women's Health. Maybe you could talk to her...

     Good luck!

  • she is great. But learned today that she is not allowed to deliver a VBAC.  Who knew?

  • I go to the same doctor and I'm planning on a VBAC, too. I didn't know all this about their policies. I'll be asking them about it at my next appointment though. The MW there said that there would be no problems so I assumed that there weren't any stipulations... I'll let you know what I find out. Can you also post what you find out?

  • Another option to look into is The Greenhouse Birthing Center.  The midwives are awesome!  We loved our experience.  It was our first so no VBAC, but I know that they are open to them. Good luck!

  • I have a friend who had a VBAC through Lansing/Sparrow OBGYN, which is where I went for my first pregnancy. Dr. Pugmire delivered my first (c-section for frank breech presentation), and the next day when she came to check on me, she made sure to tell me that I could definitely VBAC next time.

My friend who had her VBAC said she didn't face any real resistance. She had an unmedicated birth and pushed for 4.5 hours! They do want continuous monitoring, but they are supposed to have telemetry units so you can still move around. I don't know if I'm allowed to post a link to another site, but if you'd like to see her birth story, let me know.
  • I asked Dr. Russell at my last appointment at Meridian about VBAC and all that. She said that there aren't any stipulations... I specifically asked about epidural and going past the due date and everything. She said "nope... it's pretty much whatever you want goes..."
Which doctor told you about the stipulations... I'm curious to know why they aren't all on the same page.
