Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Backpack with baby!

ok, so does anyone put your baby in a backpack type carrier...i'm going to attempt this for the first time going shopping this weekend with my 6 month old.  I figure its just going to be me and her and that woudl be the easiest way to get everything done.  Tips on this?  Does your LO pull your hair all the time?

Re: Backpack with baby!

  • I have an Ergo that can be used to back carry. I have tried it out at home. I think she is still kind of little to carry her that way. I will wait until she is a toddler. I use it pretty much every time I go to the store though.

How did you get the baby in the wrap on your back??

I use a woven wrap (not the stretchy Moby wrap) but I learned from watching YouTube videos.  I use the rucksack carry.  I am currently practicing & trying to perfect the back wrap cross carry.  But look those up.

Here are some great YouTube videos on how to back wrap a baby:

I started out with the rucksack carry but I find the double hammock to be a lot more comfortable.

  • we have the bjorn and I haven't used in on the back yet. I'm still not 100% comfortable using it on the front. I find a stroller easier most of the time, or I just hold him if it's a short trip (like running into the drugstore or something.)

This completely. Since I mastered the double hammock I am LOVING it.

OP, practice over a bed or something soft when learning to "Superman" your LO up onto your back- that's the most nervewracking part. I've gotten pretty good so I can do it in a parking lot now, and it freaks people out sometimes- it's hilarious.

  • I carry my baby on my back in either the Beco Butterfly or the Ergo.  There are lots of You Tube videos if you need help.  I find the Beco Butterfly extremely easy to get on by myself because you can load the baby into the carrier and then put it on your back.  She loves it.

I use the superman toss & my LO laughs so much while I'm doing it.  But, yeah, it freaks my DH out too.  I am going to start practicing the double hammock, I have heard rave reviews about that carry.
