phantom bug bites :-(

I've been getting these itchy bumps for about 2 months now.  First I would get them on my legs then my arms.  Now I have them on my belly and back and one on my forehead.   They are not all over.  Just one bump will appear.  Then maybe another one the next day and another one the next day.  They feel just like mosquito bites but are smaller and they are SO itchy I cannot help itching them.
I told my doctor last time and she said she doesnt know what it could be but hormones cause all kinds of changes in skin so just use corizone cream and take antihistimines for relief and hopefully after baby comes it will stop.
Has anyone else had this symptom?  I get tired of the word PUPPS everytime I google I doubt I have that since it is supposedly a rare condition  in 1% of preggos and I have no area that is covered in bumps.  These are small isolated bumps.  And no I have checked for bugs the thought did cross my mind but it is not bed bugs or mosquitoes.

  • OMG I have the same thing, it is strange beyond strange.  It seems as though mine come in two's right next to each other...a few on my arms a few on my belly and back.  I went through this a few months ago and just throught they were mosquitoe bites because it was the season.  Although DH & I thought it was strange I had them and he didn't.  They came back this last week and I know for sure it's not mosquitoes, bugs, or spiders...we have checked.  Doesn't really line up with PUPPS either since they have gone away and come back.  I thought maybe my skin was reacting to something but we haven't changed up lotion, detergent, or soaps so that doesn't explain it.  Huh?  I'm so glad to know that I'm not alone in this craziness!

Ohh please come back and let me know what she says!

  • Are you sure its not bed bugs? There is an outbreak of them going around. I got them from a hotel once and it was horrible and i got all the itchy bumps and bites and they were all over.

  • could be a staph infection- my daughter has had it twice, and the bumps kinda look like pimples (with a head, but do not pop or break open). Her's did not itch, but DH had it too and his did.

I'm certain, I have scoured the bed...couch and anything else that could possibly contain them or any other kind of biter and there is no evidence.

  • yeah its not bed bugs.  i have seen the bumps appear before my eyes with no bug involved.  i could be at work or at the store - not at home.  i know there is an outbreak of bedbugs in other parts of the country so that had me concerned but they are not microscopic - i have also scoured the beds and couches and i definitely would've seen if there was a bug.
ok gnomeluv i will let u know if i hear anything

  • All your stories sound EXACTLY like mine! I was convinced it was bed bugs. And then scabies. But I scoured my house- including cutting open my box springs- and there is no evidence of bugs. Plus, my husband would have some "bites" sleeping so close to me if it were bed bugs and scabies is HIGHLY contageous. It doesn't look like the typical PUPP pictures and my primary AND midwife were no help. I was itching so bad I was waking up crying and bleeding- mostly from my thighs to my toes. I begged to get into the dermatologist and they took two skin biopsies that came back inconclusive. Hives is the generic description. Could be from environmental allergens or pregnancy related (PUPP or prurigo of pregnancy). They gave me a topical steroid cream that has been heavenly and stopped the itching on my legs allowing for my wounds to heal. Bad news is that now my forearms and chest are breaking out in bumps. It's enough to make me cry. Good luck, ladies. Please post if you have any helpful news. I just pray this ends after the baby is born!! Sometimes I feel like I'm losing my mind!

  • I know you're tired of PUPPS but it sounds like it could be it, esp since it has many varying forms.  Your OB might be able to prescribe a cream for some relief.  And in regards to it being "rare", that may be true but I know 3 people in real life who experienced it during pregnancy so it's not entirely uncommon.  They all had different degrees of it.

  • And an interesting side note is that PUPP seems to be related to fetal male cells circulating in maternal blood stream. We're Team Green but I noticed that all of you are expecting boy babies!!

  • my doctor took a look today and her "official"  "unofficial" answer was that my skin is stretching so maybe my capilaries are coming to the top and bursting which would cause redness or a small bump - she said thats why they seem to have a dot of blood on top (I thought... no the blood is because I scratched them off oops)
and she said it's something kind of like a "hemangioma"  possibly.  (totally different thing than the first thing she said) and that they will go away. and ew  I looked up hemangioma and that is totally not what I have.  Those are birth marks and they do not go away.  So basically she's not a dermatologist.  But I hope that the fact that she did not gasp or require a biopsy means that it's nothing serious like staph or invisible spiders biting me.    She said just keep using the cortizone cream and when I am done being pregnant she is sure it will go away.
Anyway thanks to other PP's.... it sounds like a couple of you have the same symptom maybe it is a form of hives or hormones making me allergic to some unknown allergan.  Anyway I wish you others luck too and hope you find some relief from the itching.  It makes it hard for me to concentrate because of all the random itchiness.... sigh.
For PP who is team green and mentioned the "male"  factor.... maybe that means your having a boy :-)
