Responding to name

So everything I'm reading and every email I get about development says baby should be responding to his name at 5 months. Does your LO respond to their name?

My DS will basicaly ignore me when he has other stimuli. If he's in his jumperoo or playing with a toy or just even looking at something else I can call his name 10 times and he'll turn maybe once or twice. He will always turn if I make a funny sound or clap or something. But if I talk to him, he just goes on doing what he was doing. 

Just wondering where all the other May babies are in this process? Do I need to be worried? My husband said he ignores me because he's used to me.

What ways do you try to get baby to start to recognize their name?

    She does sometimes. I have been a nanny a lot in my life and I never notice a response to the name until six or seven months. I don't think you need to be concerned whatsoever.

    Violet will be 5 months old tomorrow and she doesn't answer to her name.  I realized reading this that I don't call her by her name all that often though.  Maybe I should start!  I've actually never known a baby to consistently respond to their name by 5 months.

    Our little guy just started looking in the direction of his name being called a few days ago and he will be 6 months on Nov. 6; however, he seems to be ahead of the curve on many things (already sitting up unassisted and playing for a few weeks now). I wouldn't worry about it, our LO still can't figure out how to roll tummy to back :). I think they all seem to pick things up at their own speeds.

    I was actually doing this the other day...DH was holding her and every time I said her name she looked at me.

    So out of curiosity, I said "puppy!" and she looked at me and smiled.  I have a feeling she just turns to the sound of my voice...

    I don't think you need to worry.  And there is nothing you need to do to teach your baby to recognize their own name.  I know we have this thing in our culture where we feel guilty if we aren't constantly educating our kids, but this isn't algebra.  Babies learn best from normal interactions with people and their surroundings.  Talk to your child, play with them, let them do their thing--that's all they need right now.

    My DD doesn't. I was *almost* worried about it. And then I realized that I was going bat *** crazy for no reason. :)

    This, my LO turns and looks toward the sound of my voice, not really just his name.

    I wouldn't worry yet. Some babies take their time doing certain things. Your DS will pick it up in time. My LO responds to her name when she wants. If she has her attention elsewhere she doesn't always look at me.
