Anyone prefer Bjorn over Ergo?

I know Ergo is more popular with ladies here but you cant wear your LO facing out. Both their website claim to be safe on babies hips and development. Just wondering if any of you have tried both and preferred the Bjorn.

Re: Anyone prefer Bjorn over Ergo?

  • The bjorn will start to kill my back b/c all the weight is on my shoulders, but she hates facing inwards.  The ergo is more like a real backpack and I will use it when she's bigger and agrees to face outwards.

  • I liked the Bjorn until she got to be about 12lbs. Then it seriously killed my back and shoulders. DD disliked being inwards, but she figured out how to turn her head and look at stuff. Now it isn't a big deal.
  • Try a Gemini

I hate to throw another brand into the mix but I just recently went out to purchase the Bjorn for the exact reasons you listed.  However, I came home with a completely different carrier and we both love it!  The Gemini is so comfortable and it really displaces LO's weight with the hip strap. https://www.gorgeousbaby.ca/15-beco-gemini-carrier

  • I prefer the ergo becuase it's more comfortable for me, but DS hates it.  He cries the whole time he is in it.  He LOVES the bjorn though.  He likes to be able to see everything.  So, the bjorn it is...  Also, DS1 loved the bjorn too.  He was in it all the time and did not have any hip or development issues.
  • I agree w/PP, the beco gemini is more comfy for mom and baby and you can do facing in, facing out, hip or back carry.  LOVE it!!
  • We used to Bjorn when Ds was a baby, I loved it but it also killed my back if I wore him too long.  We use a Ergo now with DD and I love it! I'm going to get a Beco Gemini here soon also though, mostly because I think DD would love to face outwards.

  • Another vote for the Beco if you need something that faces out. I have the Ergo and love it, but DS likes to snuggle in, so the outward facing isn't an issue. We stayed away from the Bjorn, just from reading the bad stuff about hip placement and such. Would you want to hang from your crotch? Just saying. Try either Ergo or Beco. Your back will thank you and so will the LO.

    Yes haha

Another Beco vote. We have the butterfly 2 not the gemini. DS hated facing out for about 2 weeks until he realized he can see just as much if he turns his head. The Butterfly 2 is also great for back carries (they are secured inside very well) and they can see things on your back (I think it's a 15lb weight minimum for back carries). One negative thing about outward facing carries other than the hip issues is that if babies get over-stimulated or get tired they can't turn away from all the action.

  • I havnen't tried the ergo but want to, but our Bjorn has saved our lives! Between that and the Moby, they've both been wonderful!

The Bjorn also got to where it was killing my back/shoulders, until my sister noticed that the clip on the back was up really high, and lowered it down closer to my butt, and it made a world of difference. I have to adjust it from time to time, but it's great now!

  • Another vote for the Beco Gemini. I love it....

  • We love our Bjorn Synergy - it has a lumbar panel which provides lower back support.
