High-Risk Pregnancy

Pregnant Cancer survivors?

Hi Ladies! I just found out last week I am pregnant with baby number 4! I will be considered high risk because my last pregnancy ended with pre-eclampsia (my daughter is a healthy 4 year old!), and I am currently still under treatment for CML (chronic myeloid leukemia). My cancer is in remission, has been for over a year! I was just curious if there are any others pregnant now that are cancer survivors? Goodluck to everyone here!!!

  • ME!! Im a stage 3 Hodgkins survivor in remission for the last almost 4 years since completing 8 mos of ABVD chemotherapy. I was told Id be infertile after treatment (at age 22!) and due to severe PCOS. I am now 30 weeks (naturally, complete surprise!) Although I havent had an easy pregnancy (IC, cerclage, and on my 10th week of bedrest) I am very lucky, baby is healthy and still cooking!! Good Luck to you!
  • The week that I found out I was pregnant with DD doctors found a lump on the side of my neck and a month later I had a cancer diagnosis. I had a relatively uneventful pregnancy. I had some pre term labor but my doctors did not think it was related to my diagnosis. I carried DD for 39 weeks and she arrived perfectly healthy. I am having surgery and potentially starting radiation next month so you give me hope as I was hoping to have another LO.

    Best of luck to you!

  • I am! I had Primary Mediastinal Diffuse Large B cell Lymphoma at 23. Went through chemo, chest radiation, more chemo, and high dose chemo with an auto stem cell transplant. Just hit 8 years cured!! I'm pregnant with twins from my husband's sperm and donor eggs (wasn't able to get eggs in time because my cancer was too aggressive). Currently being managed by a wonderful high risk ob. I have perminent damage to my left main bronchus due to radiation unfortunately so that is why I am being closely watched besides the twin pregnancy. Congrats on your remission!!

I had a similar story, although I didn't have MDLB, but had relapsed Hodgkins.  Had an auto transplant, but I used my own eggs.  I just found out I even had some lung damage from the radiation I got.

I got pg with twins, had an uncomplicated, uneventful, twin pregnancy and delivered to term...and that's with lung damage.

Good luck.  I'm sure you'll be fine, even with CML.  Now the prognosis for that is pretty good, right?  I've read that you can pretty much live a normal life...and live a similar lifespan to someone without cml, am I right?  A friend of ours is dating someone with cml, so that's what he told us.

  • You are right! CML patients are living normal lives now with all of the amazing cancer drugs on the market! I went into remission almost immediately! My last PCR test showed no cancer cells. I do have to remain on the medication though, which is risky. Some women have gone off the medication for the duration of their pregnancy and then go back on it after delivery. My dr. told me to continue taking it, even though there is a small risk. Hoping for an uneventful pregnancy! All of you women are inspiring!! Cancer is such a scary word, I would have never thought after my diagnosis that I would become pregnant again! I feel truly blessed!!

  • I was diagnosed with Hodgkin?s Lymphoma stage 2b in August 2008 when I was 23. I underwent ADVB and responded fairly fast and was considered in remission in December 2008. Although the cancer is gone I have had lung complications since my radiation. I have 3 daughters (5, 4 and 1.5) and this one is #4. My last pregnancy I was considered high risk because of my lung issues and medications that I was on (prednisone). I am hoping this time they won?t classify me that this time.
