So since we are on an indefinite "hold" for now I have not been on much... So HELLO!... Well the other week while watching "House Hunters" on TV, the couple on the show had done their IVF overseas and it got me thinking.....IVF w/DE is significantly low outside the US. I am starting to look into this and even with travel we would be saving A LOT of money. So I guess my WWYD is... Would you even consider looking into this? or am I just crazy?

I wouldnt but I have insurance, perhaps you dont? I also wouldnt trust a foreign country, the language difference, cleanliness, communication, and results. Its not so cheap to go to another country for a few months either unless its Mexico... no thanks... (my choice but you asked)

Yes I have insurance, but unfortunately MOST do not cover IF. Also it is not for a few months, it would be 7-10 days. Here is the US I am looking at $25-35,000 for one attempt and over in Europe it would cost me $10-12,000 incl. travel.

Like I said this is just something that I ran across...

There's lots of people that travel for IF for a variety of reasons, including shorter wait times, lower costs, or because they want to get away from the grind for a cycle.

I think you definitely have to do your research on clinics since some countries have different success rates or transparencies in data, but there's lots of places in Europe or even Canada that may fit what you're looking for and lots of online forums that can help you explore those options.

Good luck in whatever you decide, I haven't regretted traveling for IVF for a minute and feel like the clinic we found is the perfect fit for us, I hope you can find the same and good luck!

I looked into it. DavezWife on SAIF did it. For my current cycle, I'm still in the US, but 1700 miles from home.

It's a personal decision.... we thought about it but decided to stay local and go with a guarantee program. I had never been pregnant and didn't want to waste money if it didn't work. Lots of peopel do it and I thought about doing at one point as well. I believe there are a few ladies on PAIF/SAIF that have had successful cycles overseas or in the Caribbean (I believe Panama is popular). As long as I felt like I had done my due diligence in research, I would have no problem doing it.

Have you traveled outside the U.S./Mexico? I think you'd be surprised how clean other countries are and how many people speak English.

I live in Israel so I do IVF here in Israel

It is a lot cheaper here and the drugs and treatment is more or less the same as in the U.S. from what I can tell.

Have you traveled outside the U.S./Mexico? I think you'd be surprised how clean other countries are and how many people speak English.

This. I live in Israel and almost everyone speaks English, especially in the medical community. Also, I am pretty sure everything is as clean as in the U.S., though the facilities in general might be less fancy or aesthetic. I do agree you really need to do your research if you do IVF abroad, but I think there are plenty of places outside of the U.S. with excellent doctors, English speakers, and clean facilities.

I live in Europe. You will really need to do some heavy research, because in some countries it's illegal to do DE, although DS they will allow (I know, what?!) Others don't do embryo grading. You really have to know what you're getting into.

It's a double edged sword. On the one hand you don't have the comforts from home, the language is likely different, and it's not always significantly cheaper. You have to live there for several weeks, which adds up, and if you have complications being in a medical crisis in a foreign country isn't as easy as it sounds.

Look into it. Researching things doesn't hurt.

Someone asked about this a few months ago and I posted a few links to places I've heard of over here... let me see if I can find it.

Thanks!! and LOL! I bet it was the same episode! It was the weirdest thing...your watching it and it really makes you think. BUT. At the same time like you all have said, RESEARCH, is going to be the best way to decide this....
