Babies: 6 - 9 Months

do you ride your bike with LO?

Maybe this is more directed at moms of older kids? I was walking today and saw a woman with a baby (maybe 1 yr old? 18 mos tops) in a seat on the back of the bike.  The little girl was strapped in and seemed to really be enjoying the ride, but she didn't have a helmet or anything on. I just kept thinking OMG if that woman ever fell.. or got hit by a car...

If you ride with a baby seat, does LO wear a helmet?

  • We haven't biked with DD yet, we wanted her to have a little more control over her body, which she does now, but sadly the weather is too cold.  However, we do have a helmet for her and if it doesn't fit in the spring we will be buying a new one, I couldn't imagine not having a helmet on her precious little head.

  • We have an iBert seat that we used with DD1 and started using w/DD2 who is now 8 months old. We always use a helmet. DD1 is 3 and is riding her tricycle by herself so sometimes we ride around our neighborhood together and DD2 goes in the iBert seat. She seems to enjoy it.
  • We have never biked with DS, but if we did, he would absolutely wear a helmet. In fact, in our area anyone under 16 is required by law to wear a helmet and if they aren't the adult with them will get ticketed (not sure how that works with older kids without adults).

  • I have never biked with DD2 yet, but DD1 wears one on her bike but Im not sure how I feel about those bike seats.

I DID however see a dad today with his infant (5months or less) on a bike with his baby in a carrier front facing. Neither were wearing helmets.. how he thought that was a good idea I don't know. Tongue Tied
