3rd Trimester

something I'm extremely concerned about (tmi?)

however, I know that I have no control over it.

Just curious, how many of you actually pooped during labor?

Everyone says it just happens and nobody really cares...but I care..lol.

  • My body cleaned itself out in early labor, I was done by transition.

  • It happened to me and seriously it was NO big deal- (although my husband does make fun of my every once in awhile if we happen to be on the subject of birth and birth stories but it's all in good fun).

The nurses/drs/midwives are SO used to it, they remove it immediately and go on with the business of pushing your baby out which in the grand scheme of things is the big picture to focus on.

long story short, it happens, it's normal, nobody cares and the end result is a BABY in your arms.

  • I did not, and I only know that because I asked. You won't even know if you do or don't, the nurses/doc will sweep it away practically immediately and make no comments

  • After 9 months of horrible constipation I can only hope.

  • Yep I did. I felt nervous about it. I told the nurse that I think I am going to BM. She said its ok I did with all 3 of my kid no biggie. It actually made me feel better. After doing it I stopped caring. Lots of women do it. Doctors and nurses are use to it. Plus they are so quick with the clean up DH didn't even know. He had his head down there enough to see, but he didn't.

  • I know I did, but DH doesn't think it happened.  He never saw anything.  The nurses are amazing.  I was nervous about it prior, but after 3.5 hours of pushing I couldn't have cared less.

  • This. Lol I was nervous before, but I realized that it happens to alot of people. Sometimes that's part of it, and the nurses have all seen it happen too. Like my mom said "*** happens." lol

  • Yup.  And, couldn't have cared less.

  • I actually have no idea.  Prior to delivery, I was a wee bit concerned about it.  During, I didn't give a flip (hence not even knowing whether it happened).

  • I am pretty sure I did but according to my Dh there is so much other stuff coming out down there you really can't tell.

  • don't worry about it, when I was at home in labor with my second baby, I try to go before go to the hospital, it work, and when I got there I try again, so just try to go before you get the strong pain!

  • I am a little worried about it too. I know I probably won't care while I am pushing a human out of my vag but at the moment it seems like it would embarrass me... haha I guess we will see... :)

(p.s. if you watch 'Up All Night: The Birth' with Will Arnett and Christina Applegate you will laugh.)

  • I did not in any of my labors, BUT I work in a hospital, and have only been there a short time, and am already completely immune to poop!! People poop ALL. THE. TIME. there!! We wipe it, clean it, or whatever, and go about our day! It is totally normal, common and NBD.
  • I did...wouldnt have even known it if I hadn't asked my DH.  I have sat in on deliveries...and the doctor just wipes it away and drops it right into the biohazard bag hanging off the bed...you really would never know it happened...and delivery itself is so stinky that you wouldn't even really know it yourself!

  • I did both times. The 2nd time, I asked and she said yeah and that it's a good thing. It told her I was pushing right. DD came out in 22 min. I'd rather poop and push the baby out quickly than be pushing wrong for hours. Not a big deal.

  • I'm not entirely sure -- but I think I did.  The nurse cleans you up without even mentioning a word.

  • I did with my first, but not my second. It's really not that big of a deal. As they say, "sh*t happens". My DH laughed at me about it but I didn't care.

I think it happened because I was pushing wrong. Seriously, the best thing I figured out with my DS was to have DH push my feet up to my chest when I was pushing. It helped me to push correctly and got that kiddo outta there quick. Best of luck to you!

  • I did not. I labored for 24+ hours at home, though. I don't remember if I pooped during that time or not. But I know I didn't while on the table.

  • I guess I did with DD1 and had no idea until a few weeks later when I asked DH. He said they clean it up right away and that it was no biggie. I was petrified I was going to poop while pushing. But when youre in the moment, and so focused on pushing you honestly don't know it's happening and they staff is so discreet about it you won't know till later if you did or not.

  • ::lurking::

I didn't poop. I was terrified that I was going to do it. There's something about it that freaked me out and I know " they see it all the time" but it wasn't going to fly with me. I was induced, so I made sure to clean myself out the day before with a natural laxative. Gross, but it worked.

  • DH told me I did, but I would have had no idea if I did or not.  And then DS pooped on me while DH was pulling him up to my belly/chest.  (His poop fell all over my leg.)
