Sorry if this has already been asked, but how many of you ladies are still getting regular pedicures? I've heard that massaging the ankles can induce labor... Anyone else heard this?

I got them every 2 or so weeks when I was pregnant with Grace. No PTL for me. I think there are pressure points (they have to intense direct rubbing on the spots) known for inducing labor but who are we kidding, pitocin wouldn't exist if that is all it took.
I don't typically get pedicures, but I am totally going to get myself in for a nice relaxing mani/pedi next month before LO shows up!! My feet are always so sore now, a massage would be awesome. And if it does induce labour, by then I'll be in the "safe zone"
I've started going about once a month since I can't comfortably do it myself anymore. Unless they touched the exact pressure points I doubt it will put you into PTL, usually it's more of a rub down anyways.
I am. I have heard of certain pressure points in the foot inducing labor, but they usually don't rub too much at the place I go to, and you could always ask them not to massage (although that is one of the best parts!). I plan on getting one just before my due date too, at that one I'll let them massage my feet as much as they want!
As a cosmetologist I have to be licensed in doing nails (which I painfully hate!). I was completely oblivious to this until I became pregnant and read it in books. I had to learn all about the risks with high blood pressure and massages, etc. This leads me to believe that if I didn't have to learn it for my state board that it's not that common or an issue???
I have read a bit about it and think that the pressure point is in the back of the ankle (like just in front of the back ankle bone). I would bet you really have to focus and really have to spend a lot of time to manipulate it to do anything??? Whenever I have gotten pedicures they seem to focus more on the feet and the calves...this is the way I was taught to give pedicures too. Gently manipulating the ankle...but nothing heavy.
This all being said I think of the pedicures and inducing labor thing like the sex and inducing labor thing...If your body is completely ready for labor it might help it along, but I can't see it pushing you into labor when there aren't any other signs.

Re: Pedicures

Never heard it could induce labor, but a foot *massage* isn't too big a part of the process, at least not where I go... more like a quick scrub.
I'm not too worried.
