Sippy cups smell like sour milk

Stella gets milk with each meal and water in between.  I just put her milk sippy back in the fridge after each meal.  For some reason her sippy stinks like the milk has gone bad, even though it hasn't expired and it tastes fine.  I wash her cups every evening so I have no idea why this is happening.

  • Run them through the dishwasher, on the top rack. That's what I started doing when hand-washing wasn't enough.

oh good i'm not the only one doing this Stick out tongue

i haven't noticed a sour milk smell unless M leaves one out for a day (or more Tongue Tied), but then i just soak it in really hot water and give it a really good scrubbing (i'm the dishwasher)

  • I do this too.  I just figured the milk goes sour faster bc it is warming up during her meals.  It can take her all 3 meals to finish a cup, so I usually will dump anything left over by then anyway.  I never have tried the milk though - so when I smell it I just thought it was the milk.
  • When you wash the cups are you making sure they are totally dry before you reassemble them? I find the cups get really stinky if moisture gets trapped inside.

I was going to say this too.

Whenever E's gets stinky, I soak them in some HOT water w/ baking soda. The little plastic valve pieces tend to get smelly on his.

  • Thanks for the tips ladies!

  • To add to pp....I also store the cups with the valve out. I just drop the valve inside the cup and put it together when I use it. This lets a little air on while in the cupboard...I have never had a smelly cup issue!
