The only Christmas gifts I have figured out are my mom, and my dad and
stepmom. Mom is getting art books from the boys (36-page sketchbooks
that they've been coloring and painting in - I'll cover the outside with
contact paper or something so they look nice), and my dad and stepmom
will get 2 framed paintings done by the boys. All three will also
get something non-child oriented, though I haven't worked out what yet.
...your LO(s)?
...your husband?
...your parents?
...DH's parents?
...your siblings?
...DH's siblings?
...anyone else I forgot?
Re: Christmas gifts ideas
my brothers get gift cards... the one with kids gets nothing b/c we agreed to just buy for the kids (ditto with DH's sibling with kids). They both get gcs for birthdays though.
both parents always get a yearly calendar - we make them through kodak gallery usually with pix from this past year.
LO is getting some books, a play laptop (in hopes that he will leave ours alone!), some cars, some Melissa and Doug puzzles/sets, an easel hopefully, and some big legos - maybe more if DH does the shopping. Mind you, this is birthday and christmas since they are about a month apart.
DH has an amazon list that he doesn't like people to stray from.
my parents get minutes for their cell phones since they have pay-as-you-go plans, and a daily grandparents calendar. DH takes care of the ILs and his siblings, so I have no idea, lol.
ETA - last year we did pics of LO for everyone. 4x6 for siblings and 5x7s for grandparents and great grandparents.
PS - I love your coloring book idea!
I really wanna get Kaya a play kitchen but I don't want to wait until Christmas!
I also think I might get her a tricyle. Maybe this one? And probably something Elmo. She loves Elmo.
For our parents, last year I did a photo calendar of Kaya and I'll probably do the same this year.
DH - no idea. He never wants anything. Maybe we'll buy each other the new iPhone 4S?
We got A the beginnings of a Thomas train set. That stuff is so expensive, but Ross has been carrying it lately for about 50% off. He loves the train table at the toy store and I'd love for him to eventually have one of his own at home. I'd also like to get him the M&D standing easel, which gets marked down pretty low near Xmas. He'll also get an assortment of books, puzzles and puppets that I've acquired for him throughout the year.
We also did a photo calendar for our parents last year and will probably do the same again this year. I've also been meaning to do a photobook of his first year and a half, so I'll probably give them copies as well. So as not to overdo the pictures, we usually throw in some wine, food, or a special treat (like a massage for my mom, who will actually go for one).
Not sure what I'll get for DH. We are lame and don't like "things" as gifts too much, so maybe I'll see about arranging a staycation or some other activity instead.
I love the idea of framing artwork. We don't have any masterpieces from the little guy yet, but that's a great thought for the future.
Here's my list for Henry:
*Anywhere chair (we're getting him this)
*Melissa and Doug shopping cart
*Melissa and Doug wooden food (we have some, want more)
*A play cleaning set (like broom, mop, etc)....he LOVES to push the broom around these days!
*always Haba blocks
*always Duplo blocks
*Even though he doesn't watch TV, he's discovered Elmo at school and his friend's house and loves him (I think it's the red), so maybe an Elmo doll
*Anything Little People (I love the zoo I just saw an ad for!)
*Any kind of cars/things w/wheels
*snowsuit
*boots for playing in the snow
Obviously, he will NOT be getting all of that, but a few of these things....I just have to decide which!
I might get MH a rapid beverage cooler. We always forget to put beer and white wine in the fridge, and this thing cools it in a few minutes, I think.
Everyone else.....we don't really get adults gifts anymore, except that I usually make a homemade treat box (cookies, fudge, dipped pretzel rods, rum balls, caramel corn) for each family. This year I might not do that though, since we're all trying to be healthier. I might make my own bath fizzies, though.
Last year Henry gave everyone a Henry calendar. I don't know if we'll do the same thing or not yet, though.
*sits next to you on the lame bench*
We're the same. We're not "thing" people, aside from books and Ben's computer stuff. I'm racking my brain to think of a gift for him and don't know what. I'm thinking maybe an experience - driving a race car, going on a flight in a vintage plane, that sort of thing - but all the really cool ones are 4 figures and that's soooo not happening lol.

We love experiences, especially since they force us to put down our to-do lists and set aside blocks of time to make great memories. It also doesn't help that his bday, my bday and Valentine's fall within a month of each other. We usually roll those together and take a mini trip. Your ideas sound really fun; better than anything I could think of.
The only time I was a "thing" person was when A was born and we commemorated it with a diamond necklace. I'm planning for a ring when/if we have #2.
LOL well jewelry is definitely the exception.

...your LO(s)? J is getting a play table and quite a few Thomas Wooden Railway pieces/sets. We bought an adjustable play table that can grow with him because I want it to be multipurpose and didn't really love the looks/quality of the more mainstream specific train tables on the market but now I need to figure out how to make a mat with the nature scene type thing for under the train set.
...your husband? no idea. he never wants anything.
...your parents? last year I bought them kindles and they are obsessed. not sure how I can top that.
...DH's parents? I let DH worry about it. His mom mentioned she wants a nice tote she can use for a carry on. She liked my Vera Bradley Weekender, but I can't figure out what print she might like..
...your siblings? usually just gift cards.
...DH's siblings? again, I let him worry about it and usually they end up with gift cards.
...anyone else I forgot? does anyone else have to buy co-worker presents? I HATE that, I just buy starbucks gift cards but really think the whole idea of it is unnecessary.
didn't know you were looking for a trike, otherwise i would have told you...they had the pink radio flyer steer and stroll on clearance at Target about 2 months ago for $45. it was considered "seasonal" for some reason?
i would just get the play kitchen now so she can play with it. no sense in waiting and losing valuable play time
at this age they don't truly understand birthdays and christmas yet so i don't think it really matters.

I really hate christmas shopping
...your LO(s)? she is getting a radio flyer trike for her bday in a few weeks, so for xmas she's getting a bunch of smaller gifts that i've found on sale over the past few months.... various books, a set of duplo blocks, and probably some play food.
...your husband? don't know... he has a small list but it's practical stuff like undershirts, socks, etc. and his mom usually gets that stuff for him. we don't often get each other anything b/c we usually just buy what we need.
...your parents? probably some type of photo gift from LO
...DH's parents? I plan to get MIL an amber necklace from inspired by finn b/c she gets migraines. not sure about FIL yet. maybe clothes? definitely some type of photo gift from LO too
...your siblings? usually some homemade goodies
...DH's siblings? iTunes gift card and not sure what else right now. CVS has a $10EB offer next week if you buy a $50 iTunes card

Do you guys have Groupon-type stuff there? I've seen a lot of experience-type stuff on Groupon here--dunno if it's as common in Australia?
Unfortunately no. It would make this kind of thing a lot more affordable!

I'm super excited to say that I was done Christmas shopping in August!!!
I wanted to get it out of the way before our hellish move and the baby coming.
I got MIL a gardening basket I put together myself (watering can, Grandma's Garden Stone, gloves, crocs etc).
I got FIL a GC to his fav hobby store
We draw names in my family so I got my dad a kindle and cover.
I'm getting Russ odds and ends like lulu pants, camping mugs for our trailer and actually I can't remember what else?
All that stuff is wrapped and delivered
I didn't do Elyse's Christmas present or the babies yet because I wanted to do it with Russ.
But for Elyse's birthday we're getting her a microphone and I made an art kit with paints, pencil crayons, crayons etc that are all washable. I will try to find a small easel before her birthday as well. We're doing an elmo theme for this birthday
