So I had another apt today- turns out that I am a carrier for Cystic Fibrosis and a muscular-skeletor problem. I am also not immune to chicken pox, which I found funny since I had the worst possible case EVER (think pox everywhere in my body...and I mean everywhere).
Basically, DH now has to get bloodwork done to make sure he isn't a carrier for either problem. I am not too worried about this, shockingly I thought I would be freaked out about this, but I feel pretty confident that everything will be fine. We weren't going to get the NT Scan, but I think we will because of this.
We did see the bean and he/she is measuring ahead, 11 weeks today! I also was told I have a tilted uterus so it's going to take longer for me to show...boo!!
Here he/she is!

Re: Genetic Counseling- cystic fibrosis
I had a similar issue with being a carrier for Tay Sachs. It's very rare that both of you will be carriers so I am confident that everything will turn out OK. Good luck with everything.
I'm glad you got to see the little one and what a treat that you are measuring ahead! So much closer to being out of 1st tri!

Ahh sorry to hear, but hoping for good news on your husband's blood draw! Did they find this out in your first round of bloodwork?
BTW, we are due date buddies
I am a carrier of it too. I was tested for it 3 times before I was 18. I never had it though. DH is not a carrier. We were given the opportunity for another test but I didnt feel the need for it since DH is not a carrier.
Crossing my fingers his comes back ok!
Wha?!? I'm 100% Chinese and they never told me that... in fact, I just came back from my appt where I agreed to have it!
4/25/12 ~ Our angel, Persephone James, is here!
It's actually the other way around... Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern Europe are typically carriers, not Jews from Spain or the Middle East. Both my husband and I are from Russia and were tested for CF and Tay-Sachs... we're still waiting for the results.
I hope it turns out that he isn't a carrier!
Sounds like everything will turn out just fine! Glad you got a nice shot of baby bean and all is measuring ahead. Keep us posted
Thanks, I clearly wasn't listening to my dr today, oops! Eitherway, he is going to be tested for everything. I am not a carrier for Tay-Sachs, so there shouldn't be an issue for that since both of us have to carry the gene I'm pretty sure.

Yep!
Both of you would have to be carriers and since you are not a carrier than it doesn't matter if your H is one. Fingers crossed for CF though!
That is scary, but try to stay positive!
I was the opposite with the chicken pox. I never had it, but am somehow immune.
I don't live too far from you ....do you know where you will be delivering?
I also found out that I'm a carrier for CF. Thankfully, DH is not, but it was a stressful few days before we got those test results back. I was worried so DH did some statistical analysis. He said that I was more likely to get a hole in one than for our baby to have CF. That helped to put it in perspective for me.
Good luck!

Had a dream I was queen.
Woke up. Still queen.
It's funny. I have the exact same problems. I found out last Friday that I am a carrier for CF and am not immune to the Chicken Pox (even though I had them terribly as a child). After speaking to my baby's future doctor (bc I started interviewing doctors for baby a little early), he said that most likely although the test came back that I am not immune, the sensitivity may be to high. It is highly unlikely that I have no immunity to chicken pox and that he has never heard of a case where if you had it badly as a child that same person has gotten it badly again as an adult. If you were to get it again later in life, it would most likely be mild (according to the doctor). Also, after doing a lot of research I am a lot less nervous about CF. The chances of being a carrier are 1 in 29. So your husband would also need to beat the same odds to be a carrier. Finally, even if both you and your husband are carriers there is still only a 25% chance that your baby would have CF. It sounds like a lot, but really the chances are really low, so you should try not to worry too much. I'm trying my best not to worry
