My MIL got a hot tub less than a month ago, the place she bought it through does free water analysis then they tell you what to add. She takes them a sample everyday. So far, they have told her to empty the tub, refill and start again THREE times. It is always a different issue and more products to buy. Not only has she had to dump and start over, but they keep telling her to try different products for different problems with the water. Just yesterday a guy at the place told her all he could think of that was causing her current problem was a reaction between all the different products they told her she needs, so he said stop using those and try a new one to replace them all. At this point, I think this place is just ripping her off. It is crazy. Has anyone ever had one? How did you maintain it? Google isn't much help.
Re: Anyone have a hot tub?
Wow, who has time to take a sample there every day? What a pain.
My parents have one and they have testing papers at home. Depending on the color of the strip, they add some more chemicals. I don't know how often they totally drain it and replace the water, maybe a few times a year? I know they did it twice this summer, bc they had dd swim in it with fresh water before they added the chemicals. But they do all the maintainence themselves, and I know they don't have tons of products because it all fits on one window sill.
Ha,ha,ha! My MIL!
They told her the test strips don't give her enough info on what is in the tub.
Hmm, I don't really know though bc I don't have to do any of the maintainence. I know my parents have said it is less time and upkeep than when they had the pool, but maybe that is taking into consideration pools not being covered so there is more to clean, and not just the chemical side of it. But they have had it for years and I have been in it quite a bit and have never seen any build-up or anything that made me think it looked dirty. My dad is actually pretty anal about cleanliness. Maybe the test strips keep it clean enough and all the extra stuff your mil does keeps it extra clean? Haha. It sounds like your mil's way is more of a pain than it is worth.
DH wants a hot tub, but we would have to reinforce or replace our deck if we were to do it. Luckily, there are enough other projects that would come before a hot tub that I don't think we will get one any time soon.
Where did she buy it from? Not sure where u live ,my husband is the store manager of Leslie's pools in Rochester,i know it depends on the brand of hot tub she has,he only sells i think 1 or 2 different brands, but she can always call and ask him or if she lives near them ,come in.I know he's my husband but he's great at his job and will tell her exactly what it could be ,and won't make her buy anything extra she will need.He works at the one in Greece.
Thanks. We are in Syracuse :-(
