My DS is 13 months old. I BF'd for the first 9 months, then he was on regular Enfamil. A couple weeks after he turned 1, we started WCM.
He's had a persistant diaper rash for the past couple weeks. I called the pedi yesterday and she thinks it may be a milk allergy/sensitivity. We have stopped giving him WCM for now and have gone back to formula and will re-evaluate in a week.
My question is... does it seem possible that he'd be allergic/sensitive to milk if he's ok with formula? Is a diaper rash enough to indicate a food allergy? We haven't changed diapers, wipes, laundry detergent, etc. I can't think of anything else it could be.
Thanks!
Re: Diaper Rash = Milk Allergy?
it's possible. There are kids that handle formula from cows milk but not WCM..
it could be that his allergy is low, so it's only showing up in a diaper rash (same with my sons soy allergy).if avoiding it clears it up and re-introducing it creates a diaper rash than i would avoid it -specifically for his comfort. I would get him tested just to check how high are his levels.
My DD has a milk intolerance and she always had a diaper rash. When her pedi switched her formula to nutramigen her butt became raw and it looked like her skin was getting burned off. We went to a pedi GI specialist and after 2 days on Elecare formula her skin and rashes healed and completley went away.
I am not sure if this answers your questions but I know in our case diaper rash was a symptom.
