  • Are you sure? You might need to vomit and never get in a car again.

Ok...here goes. It will probably be long and ramble. Friday morning I noticed one or two droppings in my car on the passenger floor....DH said I shouldn't leave my windows open in my car, we thought it was probably a lizard since they love our area. We clean up the car and off I go to work. No biggie...Come home, roll the windows up (which doesn?t really matter I come to find out) and don't really think of the little lizard again. Saturday morning we headed out of town for the weekend and take the other car. Monday morning I go to drive to work and open the door and there are more droppings on the floor....not just the passenger seat AND stuffing from my seat and under the dash. I am BEYOND grossed out at this point. I'm freaking out, DH is yelling. We have a "discussion" about how the lizard/rat/whatever has to be long gone or dead by now and DH puts DS in the car. (After what I know now I am seriously nauseous.) I get in the car and DH is telling me to back out to the driveway and pop the hood so he can see if there is something dead in there. I start to back up and seriously 1.5 seconds later hear a CCCCRRRAAASSSHHH. That was the sound of my rear drivers' side door ripping a hole in the drywall of our garage wall. Totally chicken winged it. Yep, DH didn't close the gd door and I didn't look over my left shoulder. F*&$%K!!!! At this point the door still closes, but the window doesn?t go up all the way. I HAVE to get to work and I?m just trying to keep it together for DS. I drop him off at school. Go to get back in my car and my front door won?t open. The back door is so jacked that it is overlapping the front door and I have to climb in through the passenger side. Eff. I call DH, tell him this all needs to get taken care of?.if the rodent is still in there I?m not touching the damn car. DH meets me at work and we switch cars?.He takes it straight to the body shop?..needs a whole new door, at the tune of three grand, thank goodness for insurance. Oh, I forgot another lovely part. The damned pest ate through part of the rear passenger seat belt to get into the trunk. This thing has been ALL over my car. Do you have the creepy crawlies yet? DH got a rental car. He and the lady at the body shop set traps in the car because they think the rat (yah, it?s a rat) is STILL LIVING IN THE CAR. We tore apart the garage after work and nothing. No droppings, nothing. We set a gadzillion traps in the garage, seal up the hole until we patch the drywall and I?m not going in there for a good month or two. My car will take a week or so to get fixed and I swear until I know that thing is dead and gone, I?m not touching it. No one is hurt (hopefully a rat will be soon) and it could have been SOOOO much worse. Still, I don?t feel whiny about being a total girl about the situation. This is a damned expensive rat. I?ve already told DH that the car will be getting fully detailed, carpets shampooed, etc before I will accept it back. I?m looking forward to years from now when this will be a good story and I can find humor in it.

Here?s a peanut butter laced rat trap for getting through that. Ick!

  • Indifferent That is an AWFUL Monday. I hope Tuesday is much kinder to you, and results in a little dead rat.
  • Ugh, R!  That is awful!!!!  Boo!  I hope the rat is long gone, the rest of your week is a good one, and your car comes back sparkling clean!
  • OMFG!! That is just disgusting. Hoping the car comes back soon and  DH takes it to be detailed and cleaned..and of course it is rat free!

  • OMG...that is crazy!!!  Ew.  I'm so sorry!  Where do you think the rat came from?  And why in your car?!  Wow.  I've had a major ant infestation of a car before, which I thought was bad, but you win!  :(

And here I was complaining because I never win anything, lol.

We honestly have NO idea where it came from. Maybe the field behind the tract? You'd think our garage would have signs of rats, but really nothing. They think it came in through the wheel well. So freaking nasty. I guess my car because it is warm and has lots of fun places to hide?!?! So gross.

D was talking to the insurance agent about the whole situation and she said that it is A LOT more common than you'd think. I don't know if that makes me feel better or just more grossed out.

Needless to say, H is not allowed in the garage from here until eternity without us holding him. I figure he'll get too heavy to carry when he's about 13 or 14 and then we'll have to work out another plan, lol.

I whole heartedly concur. One of my friends said that the door issue is a blessing in disguise because the car is gone for at least a week and I've got a clean rental to use in the interim.

I don't know about a blessing, but it sure is nice not to have the car at home right now.

We had an incident when E was about 10 weeks old. We left to go to a family dinner event and got home pretty late. I transferred E to bed and John was getting the cat fed, etc. He noticed she was playing with what he thought was a toy mouse. He was about to pick it up and throw it for her. Um... well, it was a DEAD mouse/rat (most likely a baby rat) GROSS! Who know how long the cat was playing with it.

We thought all E's toys and stuff that were on the floor were safe... but the next morning we discovered blood on some of the stuff. Yeah, we threw it away :(

Poor Octi.... we replaced her fav toy.
