A friend of mine is getting ready for baby #2 and really hoping for a VBAC. Since I did a lot of research to find my natural-friendly practice, I sent her info on all the birth centers & midwife practices I found in the area but this may not be the most useful for her. She'd like to go natural but before she can discuss all of that, she needs a provider who regularly conducts & supports VBACs. Any recommendations?
Re: VBAC friendly practices in NOVA & DC?
does she want a hospital birth? a birth center birth? a home birth?
an OB? a Midwife?
hospital:
- Dr. Tcabo @VHC. probably the most mother-baby friendly doc in town. routinely advocates for mamas and uses evidence-based practices, often to the chagrin of ither OBs who are more concerned with and feel constrained by liability
- Dr. McKenzie @INOVA Alexandria. referring OB for BirthCare (Alexandria practice of certified nurse-midwives, CNMs). believes in natural birth without unnecessary intervention.
- Wisdom Midwifery @GWU. one of the few practices with hospital privileges, these CNMs have a very selective admission process and really work with their mamas to ensure smooth pregnancies and reduce potential for complications. many of my vbac clients see the CNMs here.
Birth Center:
- Birth By Design @birth center in chantilly. fabulous midwifery team of Peggy Franklin and Kim Pekin, CPMs.
- Loudon County Midwives @the Birthing Inn at Loudon County Hospital Center. only attend vbacs if you had your surgery while their patient OR if you have had a previous vaginal birth or uncomplicated vbac
- BirthCare & Womens Health @birthing center in Alexandria. only attend vbacs if you had a previous vaginal birth or uncomplicated vbac
Homebirth (so many wonderful certified professional midwives!)
- Tammi McKinley, CPM (my favorite and my vbac MW) , arlington-based
- Marilee Pinkleton, CPM Arlington-based
TTC #1 Cycle 14 - IUI#1=BFN, IUI#2=BFP | TTC #2 Cycle 8=BFP!!
