I had a nasty car accident

After work on Friday, I picked up my best friend and was turning at a set of traffic lights when the man coming straight the other way broke his light and drove into my car. He claims I broke the light (I had a turning light) so insurance and police are investigating.

It was awful - I saw him coming, slammed the brakes but it was too late and just heard a nasty bang as my airbags deployed. Fortunately we were able to get out but my tummy was hurting and my friend had blood down her face (turned out she bit down hard on her lip). The other man was yelling at me and trying to make me say it was my fault (hell no!) but fortunately the police got there quickly and told him to stop. I was in shock and just kept saying I'm pregnant over and over.

My parents live nearby so got there quickly and took me to my obstetrician (who I got on the phone so was able to go and see him immediately), while my husband arrived and dealt with the police etc.

Fortunately baby is fine. My doctor was great and kept reassuring me and saying how much I pad the baby etc so I took all the pain instead of the baby! My friend and I are still badly bruised and took the day off work yesterday to recover but are now back out.

So I am now carless (we think it will be written off), still in a bit of pain but so thankful that everyone is ok and especially that baby is fine. It was quite amusing when everyone called to check up that they all asked about baby first and I was an after thought!! And I must be becoming a mummy as all my concern was for baby and not for myself.

But on a worrying note, is there something about this board? I think I am the thrid person who has been in a car accident in the last week or so.

  • Wow! That's terrible! That guy shouldn't be acting like an ass when it was his fault. I don't know why people do that....there are almost always witnesses.

Glad you and the L/O and your friend are ok!

  • Wow, that is so scary! I'm so glad you and baby are ok though.  I'm wondering too about this board now...3 accidents is a lot!  I drive 2 + hours a day and I am constantly worried about an accident.

THIS!  Seriously ladies cut it out...not that any of them were your fault but still!  Happy everyone is ok though :)

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOO!! I was the first one last week to have the accident (I think).  I am still carless (borrowing MIL's while she is on a cruise)  We are all fine but my car is totaled.  I totally feel your pain, having an accident while pregnant is the worst Sad  I also was in shock and kept saying that I am pregnant too.  So happy to hear that you are all fine and now the headache begins of the insurance and police paperwork, I am still in that hell a week later.

Let's hope that no one else on this board has to go through it.....

  • Oh no, that's so scary...I'm sorry you had to go through that!  But I'm so glad to hear you and the baby are doing alright, and hopefully everything gets resolved quickly!
  • I'm glad you and the baby are ok.  And I sure hope there isn't something about this board and car accidents!!!  I got t-boned when DD#2 was 4 weeks old.  The woman hit me directly where DD#2 sits and I still have nighmares about it.  Thankfully carseats are amazing these days and both of my girls were perfectly ok, but OMG I still panic when I'm driving and it doesn't look like someone is going to slow down.
  • That is terrible!  I'm so glad to hear that you and the baby are okay.

  • Thank you everyone. As you say, the important thing is that everyone is OK - material things can be dealt with!
