When did you start? Lexi turned 7 yesterday, and I'm thinking it would be good to do a chore a night. Like on Mondays , she takes out the recycles, Tuesdays the bathroom garbages, but i need other ideas.
Do you do an allowance? how much?

Chores -- daily my kids generally tidy after themselves, feed the bird, clean/set/clear/wash the table. Weekly the 7 and 5 y/o dust and my 10 y/o runs the vacuum.
We have a weekly chore chart that we accomplish. Everyday is something different like clean her room, clean the bathroom, straighten the living room. She does not get an allowance for doing her chores.
My daughter is 5, turning 6 in November, and she's had "chores" for a few months now.
She cleans up her room and straightens her bed every day, remembers to start her homework after snack when she gets home from school, makes sure the cat has food in his bowl everyday and takes out the recycling.
She gets $5 every two weeks. It's put in her piggy bank and she saves it until there is something bigger she sees that she wants. That way she learns about money and the value of it.

`Chores are not tied to an allowance in our home. There are basic chores that they are expected to complete as a part of the family no matter what. We give them cash for what they need or they can earn it from extra projects.
I am Turkey Lurkey...
b/c it sounded better than Cocky-Locky.
My SS has chores everyday. He empties and loads the dishwasher if it needs done when he gets home. He lets the dogs out/in when he gets home (he gets home about 20 min. before DH does..he's 9 1/2 y/o), cleans his cats litter box and then does homework.
My daughter started chores last year, she gets $5/wk. She has to keep her room clean, her shoes out of the living room, and help when I ask.
She gets money whens he sees something she wants and it is deducted from her "account". Recently she donated what she had left from the summer to the leukemia walk we are doing for my nephew.
I am, however, not convinced all children are able to understand allowance and therefore it should be done on a child by child basis.

This... Iv always told my son that I am only one person and can not do everything, therefore everyone in the family must work together to keep out home nice. L is 8 and has had these chores for 2 years.
Everyday-Tidy room and make bed before school, empty dishwasher if needed, take out all trash, make sure animals have food and water. The other rule in our house is that you must leave a room the way you found it. If you went into the bathroom and the shower curtain was closed I expect you to make sure it is closed again after your shower. I keep everything tidy and all I ask is for them to maintain it!
