What's appropriate? My lil one is in an infant room that has two main caretakers, plus a revolving staff of young ladies who hand off the babies to parents in the evening. The center also has a director and an associate director, both of whom know us and our baby.
I don't want to blow off bringing something in for at least these four ladies - and maybe also something shared or that can be passed around to the other infant room helpers. What do you think?
Re: Holiday gifts for Day Care ladies?
My mom was a lead teacher at a daycare center for 19 years and received a variety of holiday/teacher appreciation gifts..... ranging from the lotions and soaps of Bath and Body Works to gift cards for personal use (Target, restaurants, etc) or for the classroom use.
Mom always said her favorite gifts were when parents put something together for all of the classroom staff to share - ie cookie platter, deli tray for a lunch, or even got a Panera/Starbucks gift card for the staff to use for "rough" mornings.
This one sounds the best to me. I was going to say a gift card is best (coming from a teacher that has too many mugs and soap items to count) but since you have so many, I would do something delicious that can be shared - brownies, cakes, a little gift basket of chocolate suckers, candies, tea/coffee etc.
ETA: In all cases, people who work with kids love a thoughtful card, where the parents spend a few minutes saying what they appreciate about the teachers, or how they've made a difference in their days/lives. Those words usually go farther than the box of chocolates.
Thank you so much Masonshar & Canuck!! I think I'll bring in a big assortment of bakery cookies (because I trust a bakery more than my own kitchen, bad, I know) and give Starbucks cards inside of greeting cards with a grateful message to the two main caretakers.
What about the school director and her associate? Should I give them gift cards, too? The director has waived a few fees for us here and there, which was a pretty nice thing to do.
Thank you all. It seems that the consensus is, Starbucks gift cards work pretty well for anyone - Sarahseita had a good point about nuts in baked goods, and I'd take the time to bake, but really - the oven in my Brooklyn apartment doesn't exactly produce the best output
(sure, blame it on the oven).
There's a Starbucks two short city blocks from the day care, so with a thoughtful card for each of Sarina's caretakers, that's perfect! Her teachers could even head there during the work day for a pick me up.
