Those with BCBS Basic Insurance through Fed Gov

I just switched from my great insurance with MCPS (United POS, only paid a $10 copay to confirm I was pregnant and no payments after that for my first LO!) Now I am on my H's insurance plan: BCBS Basic. I don't have anyone else to ask, so I was wondering what did you have to pay out of pocket (from doc appts to labor/delivery.)

I realize that I could look this information up, but most of our documents are in storage until we find a house to move into and I am curious now!

Thanks!

  • I have Carefirst BCBS Open Access and I paid the one $30 for the first OB appt and paid $100 for the delivery.

EDIT:  the Speciality copay is up to $35 now.

  • I have the same insurance as you (BCBS Basic) and paid $150 total OOP.

  • Same here - $35/co pay to confirm, and $150 to the hospital after delivery.

Also, any appointments outside of your routine check ups you are responsible for the copay.  For example, I failed my 1st gloucose test, and had to go back for the 3 hrs. test.  Since that was not a routinue appointment, I was responsible for the copay.

  • Wow. Not that bad! I was expecting to hear worse! I will look up the differences between our two plans as soon as I get a chance. But this sounds very reasonable.

  • I have the same insurance - BCBS basic - and prenatal appointments have $0 co-pays (even for the 20 week ultrasound!) and delivery is $150 per "admittance" so I guess if you had a false labor or went in too early, then got sent home, then you'd pay 2 co-pays but otherwise, having a baby with BCBS is really cheap! Co-pays for baby's care will also be $0.

  • Just read other people's responses & I didn't have to pay for the first OB appointment when they confirmed the pregnancy. I was about 7 weeks along at the time & I went in to confirm pregnancy & get initial bloodwork.

This!  Much better than my old plan of $500+ for delivery.

Also, all well baby visits have no co-pay.

  • I am with the Federal Government and have BCBS.  I was so happy because I didnt even have to pay for the nuchal which is an optional test.  My co-pay for my OB is regularly only 25 (I guess they consider my practice a regular doctor and not a specialist).  I even had heart issues and didnt have to pay for the EKG!
