Re: ??? Weekly Check-in ??? 10/19/2011
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? We just got back from a 3 week trip to Florida, including a 7 day Eastern Caribbean cruise. K was a total trooper, until the flight home. That was the roughest of her 14 flights. She slept 15 or so min and was so overtired and couldn't fall back asleep.
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?Not until her 2 year well check. I should probably take her in for a flu shot though.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?Naps, as always. But I think I found the solution - napping her in her PNP with the tv on. She has been asleep for 2 hours now!
(5) Mamas-to-be: What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? From YH? Mamas: What do you think your LO(s) got from you/YH?K looks pretty much EXACTLY like me. Her nose and mouth, especially. She got DH's ears and head/face shape, I think. But still, almost everyone says she looks just like me.
(6) What is the biggest surprise you've found being PG/ a mom?Hmm...how difficult sleep can be. I think we have all struggled a little with that. I had no idea that newborns could have trouble sleeping because I'm so used to NICU babies who eat and go right back down to sleep with little fussing/crying. Usually, anyways.
(7) When did you/will you start reading to your LO? Favorite books?I think we started reading to her immediately or maybe she was a couple weeks old. Sandra Boynton books are awesome and Kaya loves anything with Elmo. One Fish, Two Fish is also a favorite.
(8) What activities are you doing with your LO? Suggestions for active and curious toddlers? We've been traveling a lot the last 3 months so we just try to find activities that suit her. We did theme parks in Florida, which was good because even though she couldn't ride a lot of things there was a lot for her to see like animals and Sesame Street characters at Busch Gardens and Sea World and of course Disney is all kids stuff. On the cruise we took her swimming in the pool and at the beach. She's really just happiest when she has space to roam and walk.Activities at home - she loves to "doop". That's how she says "scoop". LOL. We have 2 bowls, one filled with Cheerios, one empty, and she has to scoop the Cheerios into the empty bowl. I think this was an activity from Bright From the Start.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 13.5 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? a lot of the same, but just getting better
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? a shot only visit in a few weeks...still catching up on shots
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? still working on getting LO to STTN. No more nursing all night, but not necessarily sleeping all night either. She is getting 3 teeth at once so I think that has been bothering her too.
(5) Mamas-to-be: What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? From YH? Mamas: What do you think your LO(s) got from you/YH? everyone (and i do mean everyone, including complete strangers) say she looks just like DH. I really don't see it. I don't necessarily think she looks like me either though. She definitely has my eyes, but I am really not sure about anything else.
(6) What is the biggest surprise you've found being PG/ a mom? how hard it is. trying to be there for LO & DH, plus working & keeping a decent house, and take even one second for myself...it is really hard, but some how we all do it!
(7) When did you/will you start reading to your LO? Favorite books? very early on...maybe in the first few weeks, but it took a while longer for her to be interested at all. But now she loves books so now we read A LOT.
(8) What activities are you doing with your LO? Suggestions for active and curious toddlers? She really is happiest when she get just roam and pick up whatever she sees. We spend a lot of time outside. There is a playground walking distance from the house with a bunch of slides, she likes to play on. And since it is fall, we went to a pumpkin patch last weekend & there are halloween festivites all around this weekend. I feel like we are just easing out of the birthday season. I think we had a bday party every weekend in Aug & Sept so much of our weekend were spent party hopping!(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?finally feeling better! I have been sick for 5 weeks and have felt awful so I have been kind of MIA from the boards. got a cold and then ended up w/walking pneumonia... didn't really get to enjoy our trip to FL as much as I should have... but I am 99% better now. just fingers crossed that i don't catch the new cold that DH just came down with!!!!!!for milestones - miss A is officially day time potty trained now!! yay!! we still have an occasional accident but she is good enough to where i don't put her in a diaper when we are going out anymore, she is just in her cloth trainers which will hold a small accident (though they may make her pants damp b/c they are not waterproof)
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?2 yr check upwe've got a trip to CA coming up soon... we'll be there for Halloween w/the grandparents and then while we are there we are also going to celebrate her 2nd bday a little early
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?tantrums, still. today she started getting hysterical and screaming b/c she wanted me to read this book to her but i would start reading and she'd continue screaming and crying "mommy read! mommy read!" i had no clue what triggered it or what i was doing "wrong" so we just had to ride it out
(5) Mamas-to-be: What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? From YH? Mamas: What do you think your LO(s) got from you/YH?i really hoped she would get daddy's dimple
(6) What is the biggest surprise you've found being PG/ a mom?how much your life changes. so cliche and you totally hear it all the time before you are PG but i don't think you can really understand how much everything changes until you have your own baby.
(7) When did you/will you start reading to your LO? Favorite books?after she was born. her favorite books vary depending on the day/week
(8) What activities are you doing with your LO? Suggestions for active and curious toddlers?we go to the Little Gym weekly, baby bounce basics weekly at the library (song and dance and bouncing basically) and then whatever other events around town I find out about. at home we do a LOT of reading and puzzles and then the rest of the time she loves to draw and pretend play w/her kitchen. she isn't really into dolls at this point. she also loves to collect rocks when we're outside for walks

(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
She's almost 21 months and I am 27.5 weeks PG.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
We changed up the bedtime routine so she's going down without CIO anymore...halleluja! Basically we dropped snuggling/rocking after lights out. Now, we snuggle/read and then I put her in her crib, turn on hersound machine and lullaby CD and night light and then turn off the light and leave. No crying! Yay!
I am feeling pretty good...almost in the third tri! Still have killer leg cramps but have found that a heating pad when they strike helps. So I have an electric one right next to the bed so if they start up I just put it on ASAP!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
GTT on Monday (ugh! I am not looking forward to it at all) and a perinatalogist appt. on Friday to monitor growth (I had low hCG at 13 weeks so they're slight concerned about preterm birth or low birth weight...I am not that worried though...he's right on track to be just fine)
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Melt downs...she can go from happy and playing to a complete wreck in the blink of an eye. We're trying to figure out what triggers it (sometimes hunger it seems or other times just frustration...like when she's trying to dress/undress her baby dolls, etc.) and also just staying calm when it does.
(5) Mamas-to-be: What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? From YH? Mamas: What do you think your LO(s) got from you/YH?
Libby looks a lot like both of us! She's got his nose and ears for sure! And his skin tone. She's got my hair, eyes, lips and chin. Now that she's thinned out I think she has more of his family's build than mind (for which I am grateful)...we shall see....
I do wonder about what her brother will look like...I wonder if he'll also have daddy's nose...if he'll be lighter or darker skinned than Libby, what his hair texture will be, etc. I guess we'll know soon!
(6) What is the biggest surprise you've found being PG/ a mom?
I guess that I even wanted to be PG and become a mom, LOL! Let alone twice.
(7) When did you/will you start reading to your LO? Favorite books?
In utero. And once we were home from the hospital. Her favorite books have changed over time...right now her favs are "I Can Do It Too" "I'm A Big Sister" "Five Little Monkeys" and "Ten Tiny Babies"
(8) What activities are you doing with your LO? Suggestions for active and curious toddlers? This is my Q from last week, I think, so I am looking forward to getting ideas from others.Lately we're spending a lot of time outdoors since it's nice weather...walks/wagon/trike rides...swinging...running in the grass...watering plants, etc. Indoors, recently added activities are finger painting and baking cookies as well playing dress up. This is in addition as our "regular" stuff like playing with toys, puzzles, reading, coloring, dancing, etc. I want to get some play dough and see how she does with it and also make a sensory box with dried beans or rice for once the weather turns too cold. Here's a free downloadable PDF of toddler activities to do from age 12 months to 4 years old: https://printable.tipjunkie.com/wp-content/uploads/downloads/2010/05/Print-Toddler-Book.pdf

Reading this is making me feel better about Libby's melt downs because she does the exact.same.thing. WTH? That or "hold it! hold it!" as she shoves a toy or her blanket in my arms...I hold it and she's still screaming/freaking out. Then she grabs it and throws it on the floor. And then screams "hold it!" some more. Same with the books. I don't get it at all. Not sure about A but this can happen in a split-second...i.e. reading/playing totally happy/fine and then, snap!

Thanks for this! I'm printing it right now.
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? D is almost 8 1/2 mos; 7 1/2 adj.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? feeling completely overwhelmed. i'm not on the boards because work is kicking my a$$ and there's so much to do around the house. my schedule is to wake up in the morning, say bye to D & the hubbs. then go to work (no breaks or lunch). after work i drive about 30-40 minutes to my folks to pick up D. then i feed D there. bring D home and get him ready for bed. nurse him. then work until about 10-11 pm. go to sleep, wake up 2 times to nurse and it's the next day all over again. on weekends i'm working too. since i'm working all the time, i have no time to clean the house, so everything is building and i'm getting overwhelmed. and irritated. can you tell?
on the upside, D is loving his solids, he loves to walk (we're holding him of course) and we chase him all around the place. he also completed his first international trip last week
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? november for his 9 monts
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? besides work kicking my a$$, D still doesn't STTN. that's rough 'cause i get no rest. he's teething now, so he's also crankier at night, but we've been giving him baby oragel/tylenol beforoe he sleeps and it's better.
(5) Mamas-to-be: What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? From YH? Mamas: What do you think your LO(s) got from you/YH?
D is looks like me. i hope he's tall like MH though. he has my attitude though. he gives dirty looks at times and can't wait. hahahah (sorry, don't know why this font got bigger here)
(6) What is the biggest surprise you've found being PG/ a mom?
it's not as difficult as i thought. i love being a mom. it's the work that sucks.
(7) When did you/will you start reading to your LO? Favorite books?
we've been reading to him. but haven't been lately 'cause of my work schedule.
(8) What activities are you doing with your LO? Suggestions for active and curious toddlers? gosh, i had stuff from my nephews that we used to do. but suddenly it's escaped me. with D we mostly chase him around the house, play with his toys, interact with him. sing with him. no tv though!(9) What other questions would you like to see at upcoming check-ins?
hawaii 10.2008 plan ;P married bio ???
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO?
11.5 months
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share?
meh. work is much busier now, and MH is on a work trip for a week. E is taking 4-5 steps now on his own! and i'm excited b/c it looks like there's a chance he's outgrowing some of his food sensitivities. i expect we're start challenges after his 1 year appt(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up?
1 year.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week?
Naps, as always. He's down to 1 nap, and it ranges between 34-75 min. and he's started waking at 4am. the good news is if i feed him then, he'll sometimes go back to sleep. the bad news is if i don't feel him, he definitely doesn't go back to sleep. so now i feel like i'm reinforcing the 4am wake-up, but i'd rather he sleep more! ugh.
(5) Mamas-to-be: What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? From YH? Mamas: What do you think your LO(s) got from you/YH?
LO looks like a mini-DH.
(6) What is the biggest surprise you've found being PG/ a mom?
How hormonal I can be. And how little sleep I get, even though E has been sttn for months and months.
(7) When did you/will you start reading to your LO? Favorite books?
Since he was born, but he didn't really get into it until about 3.5 months. Current favorites are various lift the flap and touch and feel books.
(8) What activities are you doing with your LO? Suggestions for active and curious toddlers? We read, a LOT. And play with his toys (stackers, shape sorter, musical table, fp laugh and learn house, blocks - all get lots of play time these days), and climb stairs and walk all over the house. And we've been going to gymboree once a week. Definitely looking for ideas now that he's more mobile and coordinated. I'm going to check out those links!I think it is a universal toddler thing.... we have started calling her Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde
one minute she is happy as a clam and the next minute "something" just isn't "perfectly" the way she wants it. and it's like no matter what you do even if you're doing what she wants, it's "too late" and she is set off and she just has to get it out. sometimes I can quickly ward off a tantrum b/c I see she is getting flustered as I do something so I stop immediately and ask her, "you don't want mommy to _________?" and then she will usually tell me "yes"
it's bad though b/c it's gotten to where she is often in the middle of a tantrum and says "no use your words! no use your words!" b/c that is what i try to tell her LOL

My Food Blog - Good Eats 'n Sweet Treats
I had this whole thing written out yesterday, and then the page randomly refreshed and I lost it all. So I crabbily shut it down lol. Let's try again...
(1) What week are you in/how old is your LO? 1.5 years.
(2) How are you feeling? Any new milestones or news in the last week to share? I'm feeling like crap. It's allergy season, and my old allergy meds don't work as well in this new location. So I'm temporarily on phenergan, which works but makes me very tired and headachy. Not the best when dealing with two incredibly energetic toddlers! Also, I had the weirdest random gas bubble in my stomach the other day, and it felt so much like a baby kicking that I mentally freaked out. I know it's NOT a baby, but it scared the crap out of me. Reason #86415321 we're not having any more kids lol.Milestones...hmm. The boys have been climbing for a while, but our dining chairs are fairly high so they couldn't get up on those. That ended this week, when I walked into the dining room to discover them cheerfully sitting on the table, eating from the fruit bowl. Funny in retrospect (and I'm glad they were doing that and not jumping up and down or something), but it means now we can't put stuff out of their reach there - and in a house with all of two closets, we're rapidly running out of places to put things!
(3) Next appointment date? Any big ultrasounds/other exciting stuff coming up? Nov 11 - their 18 month check up. A bit late, I know. Oh well.
(4) What's been your greatest BR challenge this past week? The climbing and the allergies.
(5) Mamas-to-be: What physical features do you hope your baby gets from you? From YH? Mamas: What do you think your LO(s) got from you/YH? Aside from coloring (they have my olive skin and hazel eyes), they're basically mini-Bens. I read somewhere once that *most* babies resemble their fathers when they're young - something about making it less likely that cavemen would kill 'em back in the day - but will grow more to resemble their mother as they get older. No idea how true that is!
(6) What is the biggest surprise you've found being PG/ a mom? Well, twins would be a big one lol. Aside from that...for being PG, I'd say how much I disliked being PG. I expected to enjoy it, and I really, intensely disliked it. For being a mom...hmm. This is going to sound quite negative I know, but I would say how hard I have to work at it. I know that motherhood comes instinctively to many people, but I don't seem to be one of them. It's something I have to work very hard at, and I guess after spending a lifetime with my mother (who is VERY much one of those instinctive mothering types) this came as a surprise to me.
(7) When did you/will you start reading to your LO? Favorite books? We read to them pretty much from day one, but didn't start a routine (reading every single play time and before bed) until they were 8 weeks old. Early on, they liked The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Where Are The Green Sheep. Older, they preferred interactive books - lift the flap, touch and feel, etc. These days they love books with lots of elements they can point to and name (especially those alphabet type books with like 12 illustrations of things that begin with A, etc.).
(8) What activities are you doing with your LO? Suggestions for active and curious toddlers? At this age, they're mostly into active, creative play, either outdoors or doing things like building blocks, putting puzzles together, painting, etc. They're very action oriented, so if you give them a task ("let's put all those blocks in this box") they're happy.life in oz
When I first did the check in and read your replies, I thought, "I'm so glad Kaya isn't doing this" or "Maybe Kaya isn't that bad." I jinxed myself. She was SO good and so well behaved on our 3 week trip to FL and since we've been home she has been crying/melting down at the drop of a hat. Ugh. If we don't give her something as soon as she asks for it she freaks out and repeats it frantically. Or if she wants to hold something she frantically says "hoooold!" over and over until she gets it. Or she cries. I really need to go get Happiest Toddler on the Block. Did you guys read or watch it yet?
