How much does LO sleep

DS wasn't a great sleeper and DD (5 days old) sleeps all day. She is awake maybe 20 minutes a day. It is impacting her feeding snd growth.

Re: How much does LO sleep

  • Mine sleeps quite a bit. He's 15 days old now, and he's just starting to stay awake for longer. He was awake for 3 1/2 hours this morning, I was shocked. Then napped for 3 hours and I had to wake him for a feeding, then slept for a little longer after the feeding, was up about hour and a half, ate, and now has been sleeping for about an hour. He sleeps pretty good at night, just wakes to eat then goes back to sleep.

  • LO is 3 weeks old and is up long enough to eat, get a diaper change, a swaddle and a paci and she's back out. She actually fell asleep in the tub tonight.
  • Not enough!! My LO basically went through a 16 hour period today where she took 45 minute naps here and there. We're doing all of the things you can imagine that would soothe a baby to sleep and she just really fights sleep and prefers being awake. She's since followed it up with two really long naps, but I wish she slept more, for both her and me. She's really happy when she's awake, she's just awake!! This was my third all nighter in a row because she sleeps in such short intervals when she's in her awake mode.

  • My LO (5 days old)...sleeps almost all day..with periods of alertness for like an hour or 2 at a time..our nightime sleep/wake has varied quite a bit though
  • DD sleeps all day.   I'm impressed that your LO's are awake for an hour or more.  DD is awake to eat and get a diaper change, like another poster and that's it.  Can't wait for her to be up longer.

  • Let's see, he has at this point been awake since 4:30 (6 hours ago) and I am working diligently to try and get him to go to sleep (right now with a boob in the mouth). He is clearly over tired and exhausted but he fights sleep about as hard as his sister did.

  • DD is the same way.  I never remember my DS sleeping this much in the beginning- he would want to feed every 1 1/2 hours around the clock.  This time around, we are having to wake DD up every 2-3 hours during the day to feed.  And she'll basically fall asleep while feeding as well.  The only time she's completely awake is during diaper changes (which she hates), but other than that, she's pretty much asleep all the time.  As long as she has the proper amount of dirty diapers, our ped is not concerned.

  • Mine sleeps sometimes for 4-5 hours at a time.  It affected her weight too so I was looking online to find ways of waking her up.  Here's the link that I found helpful:

    Good luck!

  • My daughter sleeps a ton.  She was two weeks early and jaundiced which explains an lot.  However we're needing to wake her every two hours to feed because she'd just sleep, sleep sleep away!  She lost 15% of her body weight in the first few days which alarmed the doctors, (she was only 6lb 3oz to start) so now we are diligent about waking and feeding so she grows and thrives. Good luck! who thought a sleeping baby would be a problem, right?
