Does your OB do internals even if you are having a RCS?

I've heard two different things from two diff docs in my practice.  One doc (the one doing the surgery) told me that they don't typically do internals on RCS moms, b/c it "doesn't matter" and if I did go into labor, as long as it was past 37 weeks they would just do the c/s then.  Another doctor told me that she would check me to monitor if my body is making progress and it it looked like I might go into labor, just so I could be aware for signs, etc. 

I get what doc #1 is saying, but I kinda want the internal just to know if my body is actually doing anything and if I might go early..........I feel soooooooo much pressure down there that I feel like something is going on.

If you had a RCS scheduled, are you getting internals?

    My OB does at least one internal. She warned me that I would have one this week!

    While my c/s was not a repeat, it was scheduled because DS was frank breech. My OB's policy was that they didn't routinely do internals but if I wanted one they would have done it.

    I wish I had though because I went to my 39 week appt and my OB asked if I wanted one and thought "what's the point?" since I was scheduled to go in 4 days after that to have my  c/s...my appt was at 11:30 am and a couple hours after I got home from work my water broke at 6 pm! If only I had my doc check I would have known that I had a bulging bag of waters!

    I guess it doesn't hurt Smile

    PS, I also felt a lot of pressure the day I went into labor and had irregular contractions all day. GL!!!

    I think I'm going to request internals.....at least ONE--can't hurt, and I'd like to know if anything is going on!

    Mine didn't do internals at all, for anyone, unless (I guess) there was a specific need. As he phrased it, "At this point either you're dilated or you're not. Either would be normal and wouldn't tell us anything." You can be dilated for weeks or go from 0 - 10 within hours.

    none for me... i opted not to have them. with my DS, I went into labor hours after my 1st internal... I'm holding out until my RCS this time, on 11/1/11 :-)

    Yes, more than likely you will get examined at some point.  Say for example you go to triage because you think your in labor, they will check you and then recheck you in about 1 hour.  Cervical change=labor.  They would do your c-section.  If there's no change, they would send you home.  Just because you are full term doesn't automatically mean they would deliver you.  You need to be in labor or have a medical reason to do the c-section before 37 weeks.  This is how it is at my hospital. 

    If you made it to your scheduled c-section date, they would just do the c-section, because at that point it doesn't matter how far your dilated. They probably wouldn't check you beforehand.

    I like your OB!

    I personally wish I hadn't caved and done internals. They don't tell you anything anyway.

    My OB was the same way.  I kind of side eye obstetricians that do unnecessary internals.  What is the point?
