Potty seat Poll

Would you drive around with an (empty) mini potty in the trunk or do you find that gross to have your kid go pee in the car?  DH and I will never agree on this, but I am just wondering if one of us is really out of what other people think or if there is a mix here too.

Re: Potty seat Poll

  • I could see us doing that for long car trips, like when we go to Philly or something. If DD has to pee and the next rest stop isn't for half an hr or so, we would probably pull over and let her use a potty. For everyday errands where she could go before we leave and when we get there, probably not. I might change my answer when we are more consistently going in the potty, but for now, that's what I'm thinking. :-)

  • I plan on doing this. But I don't "do" public restrooms.

I never thought of it until I saw them do it on Jon and Kate +8 way back when. I think it's pretty smart to avoid the whole "I gotta explore every single public bathroom ever" phase.

  • No- I wouldn't. We always make J go before we leave and it's never been an issue. He's been on some long'ish car rides before (like 50-60mins) with no probs.

  • When we were in the beginning of potty training, yes, we put one in the car for most outings.  There were several times that it came in handy.  Now, we bring it along if we're going for a long drive, like 2+ hours.  We do take the potty ring with us for overnight trips, too.  He won't sit on a regular toilet so if he has to poop, we need that ring.  We put it in a plastic bag and put it in with his car seat for traveling by plane.
  • We haven't done this. We make sure he goes before we leave the house, then are sure to stop at a service area a couple hours into our trip to make sure he goes again before we start into the part of our trip where it's harder to stop for bathroom breaks. We've been able to make it the 3 hours to Watertown (our farthest trip since potty training) with no problem.
  • We are running a little behind and haven't gotten there yet, but I don't think it's weird at all. Like Telyco said I HATE public bathrooms...even for myself, so the thought of T having to use one as small as she is freaks me out!

  • We will be doing this our next long car ride in unpopulated areas.  We went to Vt last spring, we came back over a fairy then drove through the middle of NO WHERE for over an hour and 1/2, Ty kept crying he had to poop but DH refused to stop for him to poop in the woods.  Turned out to be diarhea :-( and he pooped in his carseat in the middle of no where!  Then B started vomiting :-(  Next time, potty seat.  Plus, we often stop after about 1 1/2 hrs for Ty to pee in the woods.  A littke different for girls.

  • I had thought of doing it for our drives to Blo but DH always says not to bring it. We've gone 2-3 times now since PTing her and just this last time she said she had to go so we had to find a restroom-luckily she held it and actually she didnt even go when we stopped!  So shes made all trips there without going potty. I figure if worse comes to worse, she pees on the side of the road!
  • I never have.  We drive Buffalo to Syracuse often.  When I see a sign for a rest stop coming up, I always ask if he has to go.  (Of course, there was a period where he had to go at every rest stop...but mostly because he was hoping we would get food too.)  I would rather he pee in his carseat than stop on the side of the Thurway...and if we're at a rest stop we might as well use the bathroom.

  • I thought about doing this when we went to RI over the summer.  However, I decided to just put him in a pull-up for the trip.  I wouldn't do it for short rides.  We're lucky in that Justin can really hold it if we're in the car and he needs to go.  We just stop where we can.  I hate public restrooms but you can't always avoid them.  I just make sure to line the seat with paper.
