and I'm so nervous!
Everyone is making it seem like such a big deal. I honestly don't understand why..we already know he will still qualify for services and his teachers will stay the same. We hope he will qualify for school (so the district will pay for it) but if they don't we'll just do it on our own.
But I am like an instant cryer with this stuff - so I hope I can hold it in when they talk about Evan's delays. I already know what they are going to say - so at least it won't be such a shock like the first evaluation.
Please wish me luck!
Re: Evan's CPSE meeting is tomorrow
Good luck tomorrow. Just think, a room full of people who are all working to make a great plan for Evan. What a lucky guy.
From a teacher's prospective, sometimes the chairperson (or someone on the team) is intimidating to the staff and parents. I certainly have talked up meetings just to prepare parents for how it can be serious and still just a formality.
Super helpful for you that you are in the loop about everything.

Try to relax - everything will work out. Court is right. Some chairpersons can be hard butts about things (I heard numerous stories about how ridiculous the person before me was about things. It makes me try harder to not freak parents out during meetings, especially the ones transitioning from EI), but it will all work out.
Each county is different, so if may not be easy to be approved for a program where you are. If you don't get approved, see if there's any way a SEIT (special ed teacher) can be provided for time in his preschool class.
Good luck tomorrow!
Thanks guys! The evaluators told us that he will need a speech increase and OT increase. His current SI teacher and OT want to see him go to school because they think the structure will really help him. I spoke with each evaluator about how we are wanting to do this so maybe they put that in their reports. With those two increasing that would put up at EIGHT sessions per week - and that is a lot to handle at home. If we have him in a speech based program somewhere - we may only have to pull him out for OT...because obv if we put him in a regular preschool or edukids daycare type place - he'll get pulled out for all that...and barely be in the class itself.
That would justify a program for me, but like I said, each county is different, with some being more strict with their criteria than others. I hope everything works out in Evan's favor today! Keep us posted.
As far as getting services go, this is actually something that will work in E's favor. But I know it doesn't sit well with you as the Mom. I have sat through dozens of CPSE meetings, but they are different in every district/county. I would be shocked if they didn't approve a child with those type of delays for program. In my area, once they enter program they recieve all their therapies and services at school. Which is great because all the therapists and teachers work together. Even if he doesn't qualify for services, you may be able to enroll him in an integrated school as a typical student and he could recieve his services at the school still. I have seen students do this at Tyler's school.
We went in to our CPSE meeting with just 2 ST, 2 SI and 1 OT a week, an 18 month delay is social/emotional but a 3 year advanement in cognitive reasoning (or something like that, part of speech). Tyler got approved with no problems even though his coordinator and everyone had me all nervous that it was going to be a big fight for services and program.
Good Luck! Let us know how it goes. If you have any questions or moral support, message me.
I can't believe E is going to be 3 already!
