New Tricks (sleeping ?)

Madison has decided to grow up this weekend.  She learned to roll over back to tummy.  She also started giggling and trying to put her binkie back in her mouth by herself.  Even though she still hates tummy time, and usually wails once shes flipped herself over, she has occasionally flipped over onto her tummy and promptly fallen asleep! If shes on her play matt weve been leaving her and just watching her closely.  She napped like this during the day all weekend.  (She hasnt been napping during the day much at all before, we never used to put her on her tummy to sleep once we got home from the NICU) Now shes trying to flip over at night.  I'm afraid to let her tummy sleep during the night when DH and I are also asleep but cant figure out how to stop her from doing it.  Do you guys let your LO's sleep on their tummy if they flip themselves over at night?  What can I do to stop her?

Re: New Tricks (sleeping ?)

  • It was scary the first time Andrew flipped on his tummy and slept like that. At first he would flip onto his tummy while sleeping and then get upset, so I had to flip him back over. We played that game for a few weeks, it was exhausting! Now he likes sleeping on his belly and I let him do it if he wants to. There isn't anything you can do to stop her unfortunately. Do you have an Anglecare, or Snuza monitor? That saved my sanity.

  • JS is a belly sleeper.  He just decided one day that he would only sleep that way.  We use the Angelcare and after the first few nights I was able to sleep better.

Isn't it fun to see your LO discovering how to do new things?  I love the look on my boys face when they learn a new trick.

I love it too - the first time she flipped she had this "whoa - who just turned the world over?????" look on her face!!!

No not yet Katie! lol - she hasnt figured that out just yet! when shes playing she turns over and FREAKS! She hates being on her belly which is weird because when shes tired she immediately falls asleep on her belly now! lol - my baby is belly-bipolor!.

I can totally see why you are nervous then!  If she could roll from back to belly AND belly to back, I'd say, "no big deal".  But since she can't I'd probably flip her back over and get a snuza or angelcare for her crib (for your peace of mind).

I hope Gabe doesn't figure out back to belly for awhile.  I'm just not ready for that yet.  LOL!  (I know he'll have a melt-down of epic proportions because he hates his belly).
