Bathing/Crib Questions

I have a few random bathing/sleeping questions, so rather than post multiple times I figured I would lump them into one post.

  1. When did you start using regular soap on your DC?  My son started to grab the bar of soap and try to wash himself.  So when did you stop buying the all in one soap/shampoo combo and start using bar soap.  We use plain old DOVE soap.
  2. When did you start using a pillow?  We still don't use a pillow, but he has been bunching up his blanket to sort of use as a pillow.
  3. Can I use a comforter in his crib (it's crib sized)?  It's starting to get cooler, and I want to make sure he is warm enough.

Thanks!

Re: Bathing/Crib Questions

  • 1. We are still using the Suave 3in1 stuff for kids. It is easier for DS to handle than a slippery bar of soap, and it is tear free, which is good, b/c he sis definitely prone to rubbing his eyes with soapy hands.

    2. DS got sick at right around 18 months and I gave him a pillow to elevate his head. He loved it, so when he was better, we let him keep it.

    3. Why wouldn't you be able to? He is two. He can move around just fine and cover and uncover himself as needed.

  • 1.  I still use kids body wash.  DS is 3.

    2.  We gave him a pillow when we moved him to his toddler bed at 18 months.

    3.  We gave him a comforter when we moved him to the toddler bed at 18 months.

  • 1.  DD started using the bar soap on her own because she wanted to bathe like Mommy and Daddy, this was around 2.5.

    2. 1 year+.  Like PP, I think we had a cold and were elevating and I left it for her afterwards since she loved it.

    3. We've been using one since about a year with DD, maybe even earlier.  DS co sleeps for part of the night, and he definitely uses some covers at 9 months - for the part he is in his own bed though I don't use covers yet on him.

  • 1) we still don't use regular soap. we use J&J tear free body wash/shampoo. I imagine we'll keep using this for a few more years because I don't want to risk him getting soap in his eyes. I remember how much that burns!

    2) We bought a little toddler pillow for Warner right around the time he turned two. And then when we transitioned him to a toddler bed, we gave him a full sized pillow.

    3) At this age, I think that yes, you can safely give him a comforter. However, whether or not he will keep in on is another thing. Warner moves around a LOT in his sleep and never keeps the covers on for long. So we just dress him warmly for bed.

  • LO is only 9 mo, so there is only question I can help on...LO has has some bar soap since birth because DH can only use one kind of soap, so when he bathes LO that is the only thing that can touch DH's skin. (It is Aveeno oatmeal soap). We use that bar soap for shampoo and bathing and it is naturally tear-free. (That said, when I bathe LO, I use Burt's Bees because we still have a bit in the bottle.)

  • 1. DH and I don't use bar soap, so I doubt we'll get any for DD.  We split out the shampoo and body wash elements for DD by the time she was 18 months.

    2. We gave DD a regular-size pillow not long after her 1st birthday.  She started using it sometime around 18-20 months.

    3. DD has had a small blanket since this summer, so sometime between 18 and 24 months, and I'll probably upgrade to a larger, heavier weight blanket this winter.

  • 1. my son still uses it at almost 5. i use now (at 13 months) and have always used a separate shampoo and conditioner for my DD's hair.

    2. when we converted to a toddler bed. he was 29 months. he didn't start using it until he was 3.5. before that, he scooted down the bed to avoid it or moved it.

    3. if he's strong enough to navigate the blanket, i'd say yes. my DD has had a blanket in her crib since she was 6 months. and i always used it during nap times.

  • 1. We don't; we still use CA baby for hair and body.

    2. DD has had a pillow for a while, probably since 21mo when she moved to a regular bed, whether or not she actually lays on it is a different story; she prefers to bunch up a blanket or use a stuffed toy for a pillow.

    3. After 1st b-day, a blanket/comforter is OK. DD is 3 and while she has been able to put a blanket on herself, she doesn't do it much. She shows me that she knows how to, but she doesn't want to. DS is 16mo and has no pillow (his crib is elevated w/ a wedge) and any blanket I put on him is immediately not on him. I've put it on him, walked to my room and saw on a monitor (literally not even 10 secs later) that he had already gotten out from under it. In the cold months they will both be wearing 2-3 pairs of PJs.
