My birth story:
On Monday 10/17 I had my 39 week appointment. I was 3cm, my cervix was thin and baby was engaged. Due to previous complications my OB decided to induce me on Tuesday 10/18. He stripped my membranes before I left. I know it doesn't work that well for some but my body must have been ready. As soon as I left his office I started having strong, frequent contractions. I went to the hospital that night in fear the baby was coming right then but I was still only 3cm dilated. The nurses said I could go home to labor more if I wanted to. I decided that was best since I didn't want to be stuck in a hospital bed all night if I didn't have to.
I returned at 7am and by then was having strong contractions for hours. I was a 4 when checked and pitocin was started but only at a 2 since my body was doing what it was supposed to. My contractions were very strong and back to back. Blake kept kicking off the external monitor so right away I had to get an internal which I hate. My pain was very high especially in my crotch area. My midwife was amazing though. She really helped me get through a lot of my contractions by helping me breathe and focus on other things. After a few hours she checked me and I was a 6. She decided then to break my waters which relieved a lot of pressure. Pitocin was turned up and the pain became very strong. When she helped me go to the bathroom my pee had blood in it. I have kidney problems and of course they acted up while I was in labor. My blood pressure and heart rate were also very high. Everyone said it was a really good thing I was being induced that day.
I didn't even ask for the epi. My midwife knew I wasn't against getting one so she suggested it. I think it was around 1 pm when I got it. I was skeptical since with my first the epi failed. Thank God it worked this time though! After the epi I was checked again and still at a 6. Pitocin was turned up to a 10 and my epi started to wear off. The nurse had it turned up but man it was strong. I didn't like not being able to feel my legs.
At about 2:30 my midwife came in asking me to sign the papers to have another monitor put it. This one measured contractions. I told her I really didn't want to since I had it with my first and it hurt. She was trying to talk me in to it when the nurse checked me. She said "Forget the monitor we got bloody show, you're a 10, it's time!" So in came 2 students and another nurse.
Since I could barely feel my legs the students, my mom, and nurses held my legs. Brad stood to the side since he was shaking. I pushed for less then an hour and Blake was born! When I heard that baby cry I burst in to tears. So did my mom and Brad. They put him on my chest and I couldn't believe he was real. I never got to experience all of that with my first. I was so grateful to have a healthy baby boy. I couldn't stop crying.
The students kept thanking me for letting them watch. They said I made them not afraid to have a baby. They were both so emotional they even helped take pictures! All that labor pain was worth it and I would do it all again in a heartbeat. SO keeps begging me to try again soon he's so in love. I am waiting for a while though.
I'm so thankful for our healthy, beautiful baby. I wish Gavin was here with us. I know he is watching though.
So now here is Blake Alexander born 10/18/11 3:05pm, 7 lbs. 13oz. and 21" long.

Lastly here are my two boys. Blake has the hat on, Gavin is in the corner. Crazy how much they look/act alike.
Re: Birth Story with a ton of PIP
That pumpkin outfit is too damn cute...and you're right, your boys do look a lot alike. No question whatsoever that they are brothers.
Congrats!

Amazing story, your boys are beautiful.
Reading this made me feel better about trying for an epidural this time as I also had a failed epi with my first, I am going to try to hold out for as long as possible before getting one but now I feel a little better about trying again since reading your story.
Thank you for sharing!
